Primary Purpose of Position
The Research Assistant in the Center for Research Excellence (CRE) gathers, edits, analyzes, compiles, and reports data and information to support a variety of research and proposal development activities aligned with University goals.

Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Four-year degree or equivalent combination of training and experience necessary to perform the work.

University Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of coursework for a four-year college degree in an area related to social science, including coursework in statistics, research methodology, computer science, and/or other coursework directly related to the work to be performed and six months of experience in gathering, editing, and analyzing data for social and economic research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Job Duties
  • Mine, analyze, and organize data from electronic research databases and search engines to facilitate and support faculty research activities that translate into funding proposals.
  • Provide post-award support for internal grants, e.g., Faculty Research Grants (FRG), Ignite, ArtXSci, etc.; track and update internal proposal status in Niner Research.
  • Collate high volume information for internal grant proposal review panels (compliance checks against proposal guidelines, sorting data for subcommittees, extracting budget information, research compliance requirements).
  • Analyze, compile, and summarize CRE program data.
  • Maintain a current calendar of grant opportunities, including limited submission solicitations, and funding opportunities related to key areas identified in UNC Charlotte’s Top-Tier Research Commission Report.
  • Train faculty to use research databases and search engines (COS-Pivot, GRC, Academic Analytics) to locate and match funding opportunities to research activities; track faculty usage.


Other Work Responsibilities
  • Track, analyze, and compile data to support CRE dashboard reporting.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Familiarity with research databases and search engines.
  • Experience with tracking, analyzing and compiling data.
  • Demonstrated good communication skills both written and oral.
  • Higher Education a plus.
  • Experience with data analysis.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office / Google Suite ( e. g. excel, word, docs, sheets).
