Salary: 90% of $8,303 per month with additional Pay Differential, 90% of $99,636 per year ($47.90 per hour), SR-20, BU:09

Hilo Medical Center is a nationally-recognized CMS 5-Star and largest hospital with over 1,600 employees, located on the east side of the island of Hawaii. Our 11-bed has been a Beacon Award Winning unit with a diverse patient population. We are currently seeking Registered Professional Nurses (Level III) for our busy Med Surg Intensive Care Unit. This position will be responsible to independently develop and implement nursing care plans for patients; provide nursing care treatment and educational services; may assign and direct the work of lower level registered nurses and nursing assistants; may serve as a charge nurse on an assigned shift and performs other related duties as assigned.

Hilo also known as the Big Island is a quaint old-Hawaiian, small town atmosphere with diverse terrains and many places to explore. Hilo is close to the airport, convenient shopping areas, beaches and parks. It is home to the Hawaii Community College, University of Hawaii and the Hawaii Volcano National Park. The hospital staff is community oriented.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree is highly desirable. Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g. official transcript of diploma) should be submitted with the application to be given credit for education. A legible photocopy will be accepted. However, Hilo Medical Center reserves the right to request an official copy.

EXPERIENCE: Must possess full-time work experience as a licensed Registered Professional Nurse for a total of Six (6) months and independently provided nursing care to patients in a clinic, hospital, or institution.

SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION: Of the required one-half (1/2) year of professional nursing work experience, one-half (1/2) year of professional nursing experience working in an Intensive Care setting, unit is required. The required experience must have been gained within the past two (2) years.

SUBSTITUTION: Possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for all the required experience. Submit copy of master’s degree with the application.

CERTIFICATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is required one (1) month after employment. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred. Please submit copy of certification with the application. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required six (6) months after employment.

LICENSURE: A valid State of Hawaii as a Registered Professional Nurse. Evidence of licensure is required with the application.

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays, based on hospital operations (services are provided 24/7).

MEDICAL/PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT: Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, two-step tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for physical examinations, except the cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the applicant and not the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. New employees are required to provide confirmation of their full vaccination status by presenting their CDC vaccination card or VAMS Certificate prior to their start date.
