Position Summary

Buena Vista Health and Recovery Centers is a growing, state-of-the-art healthcare recovery center with multiple locations in Arizona. We are currently seeking an Intake Registered Nurse to join our team of passionate healthcare professionals at our Tucson campus. This position helps doctors treat patients who have various behavioral problems, such as substance abuse and various co-occurring disorders.

This Registered Nurse must be open to working a schedule that includes scheduled shifts (10am-10:30pm) shifts and be flexible to work on weekdays and weekends when needed.

Buena Vista Recovery is a medically managed residential and inpatient Arizona addiction treatment campus specializing in drug and alcohol rehabilitation. We offer confidential, patient-focused withdrawal, detoxification, and counseling services for substance use disorders throughout our facilities. We provide 24-hour medically supervised withdrawal, detoxification, and stabilization via a structured program that has proven results. Buena Vista campuses have the full continuum of care spanning from detox to outpatient services all of which proudly hold the Gold Seal of the Joint Commission.

Treatment Type:   Inpatient Detox, Residential Treatment, and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). All Subject to location.

The Intake department plays an essential role in helping fulfill our mission at Buena Vista Health and Recovery Centers. Intake team members assess the needs of both scheduled and walk- in admissions for patients seeking treatment at our facilities. As an Intake RN, you will provide a comprehensive nursing assessment and quality therapeutic care to patients seeking treatment of substance abuse, dual diagnosis or psychiatric and emotional disorders

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients by a qualified licensed Registered Nurse of patients who present for assessment.
  • Screens for medical and behavioral emergency conditions.
  • Performs a comprehensive nursing assessment and quality therapeutic care to patients seeking treatment of substance abuse, dual diagnosis or psychiatric or emotional disorders; coordinates with the clinical team/on-call physician to ensure these needs are met either at the facility or other appropriate community provider.
  • Communicates treatment to patient and family to help reduce fear and other attitudes obstructing acceptance of care and continuation of treatment.
  • Completes the following with the patient and other intake team members during intake nursing assessment: Vital signs, urine drug screen, pregnancy test, breathalyzer, rapid COVID-19 test, skin check/ contraband search and document all findings in patient’s chart.
  • Communicates nursing assessment and needs to admitting provider and obtains admission orders for patient prior to escorting patient to the unit.
  • Completes a nurse- to- nurse report with floor nurse accepting patient upon escorting patient to the unit.
  • Communicates with admissions department to facilitate transfer of patient to appropriate community referral if needed.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to formulate individualized treatment care plans.
  • Float to unit to assist floor staff nurses as needed between admissions
  • Perform routine procedures (vital signs, administration of medications including injections, blood draws, blood sugar checks, urine specimen collection, COVID-19 testing and document in client charts).
  • Adjust and administer patient medication and provide treatments according to provider orders.
  • Ensure unit safety and infection control is maintained throughout the shift through tasks including but not limited to decontaminating medical equipment, sanitizing surfaces, etc.
  • Provide emergency medical care in patient emergency situations.
  • Oversee any LPN staff working on shift and sign off on LPN assessments requiring RN sign- off.
  • Foster a supportive and compassionate environment to care for patients and their families.
  • Expand nursing knowledge and capabilities by attending educational workshops, conferences, participating in continuing education.
  • Monitor patient’s condition and assess their needs to provide the highest quality care to our clients
  • Monitor and document medication administration and compliance as directed. Maintain accountability of all controlled substances according to federal and state regulations.
  • Determine and implement specific detox protocols as designated by the physician
  • Assist in evaluating patient’s condition and progress with other team members
  • Observe and assess patients for clinical signs and symptoms following a prescribed course of treatment
  • Uphold all HIPAA and OSHA requirements and ensure compliance with all Federal and State laws, regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with all facility and Buena Vista Health & Recovery Centers protocols, procedures and guidelines
  • Report to Nursing Director and Executive Director all situations which require administrative intervention, including incident reports
  • Participate in quality management and staff meetings including mandatory trainings and monthly nursing meetings
  • Must commit to working one major holiday and one minor holiday within the calendar year.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills Required

· Valid CPR and CPI certifications or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire

· Level one fingerprint clearance card or ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire

· Proven experience as a registered nurse. 1-year minimum experience in substance abuse or psychiatric treatment setting.

· Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.

· Excellent knowledge of emergency care

· In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination etc.) and dedication to following these at all times.

· A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Responsible and compassionate

· Outstanding organizational and multi-tasking skills

· Patient with excellent problem-solving skills

· Associates Degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

· If candidate self discloses in sobriety – Buena Vista requires 1 year of continuous sobriety.

· Facilitating communication between other healthcare facilities for patient continuity of care

· Completing nursing assessments including admission assessment, discharges, detox tool assessments (MSAS/ COWS)

· Knowledge in detox withdrawal symptoms and being able to easily recognize these signs

· Knowledge of detoxification regimens in substance abuse

· Knowledge of basic techniques & methods to ground clients struggling with anxiety in a mental health or substance abuse setting

· Ability to treat patients with dignity and empathy in challenging situations

· Strong desire to be part of a team dedicated to providing patients with exceptional therapeutic care

· Compassion for all patients facing trying physical & mental health crises

Educational Requirements

· Current valid RN license in the state of AZ with no restrictions.
