Job Title: Quality Engineer APQP/PPAP Program Lead

Highland has an immediate need for a "Quality Engineer, APQP/PPAP Program Lead", in our Cheraw, SC Industrial Fabrics Manufacturing facility, for the production departments.

Position Summary:

In this position, the textiles “Quality Engineer” is responsible for serving as the focal point and process expert in driving the implementation and ongoing execution of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Parts Approval Process (PPAP) within our organization, by performing the following duties: They will be successful at this by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, (other duties may be assigned):

  • Must conduct your work in a safe manner, following all company required safe work rules and report any accidents, near misses and or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Plan, direct, organize and control up to 50 concurrent APQP projects and their PPAP packages, coordinating the support resources from process owners and subject matter experts and the submission, tracking and reporting of project status.
  • Provide training and daily work direction to at least one dedicated hourly associate assigned to the APQP/PPAP team.
  • Support continuous improvement by working with and advising manufacturing and engineering teams regarding process refinements needed to support APQP/PPAP assessments.
  • Evaluate current procedures and processes to determine compliance with applicable customer, Quality and EH&S requirements.
  • Working with the process owners, apply APQP/PPAP and other Lean/Six Sigma principles to investigate non-conformances to determine root cause, identify corrective actions and track implementation and effectiveness.
  • Schedule and carry out internal IATF and ISO 9001 audits with assistance from plant internal auditors.
  • Coordinate yearly external audits with external accreditation body.
  • Collaborate with various process owners on document control and QMS activities
  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams to apply cutting edge technology and Lean/Six Sigma principles to an operationally demanding automotive business.

Must Haves:

  • Demonstrated cycles of learning/implementation in Lean/Six Sigma ideologies.
  • Proven track record of success in a matrixed manufacturing environment.
  • Proactive, high sense of urgency and results-driven individual who thrives in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead, motivate and influence cross-functional teams through effective communications and diligent oversight of assigned resources

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Engineering, Quality Systems, manufacturing or a technically related field preferred.
  • Working and demonstrable knowledge of automotive quality management systems requirements, including IATF16949.
  • Proficiency in core tools – APQP, Control Plan, PPAP, FMEA, MSA and SPC is required.
  • Knowledge of Document Control and Calibration systems.
  • Six Sigma green belt certification required: black belt certification highly desired
