Positions in this function are involved in the definition, management, and implementation of technology focused projects/programs. Do not use this function is not used for project/program management in non-technology roles. Positions are business specialists and technology generalists that manage, direct and interface with business clients. Individuals in this function may be involved in:

  • Defining work strategies, aligning these with resources and desired client outcomes, and overseeing planning and execution of the work
  • Ensuring technology solutions are managed to support business strategies, often working with senior management
  • Directing the integration of technical aspects of all related projects/programs
  • Conducting analyses, needs assessments, and cost/benefit assessments and helping to broker other technology services
  • Monitoring financials to ensure budget compliance
  • Release management


Projects are more stand-alone than programs; program management is typically the orchestration of several related projects. At entry level individual contributor roles, the primary focus will be project management. As one advances through the career path, their focus may be project or program focused, depending on business need

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct accountability for the overall success of communication onboarding projects
  • Coordinate cross-functional resources to deliver against project requirements
  • Work closely with the development resources ensure project progress and maintain constant communication
  • Challenge/lead project decisions
  • Review and analyze project scope and manage stakeholder expectations
  • Prepare project schedule and internal status reports, as required by the stakeholders
  • Identify risks/issues and escalate to the necessary and appropriate resources or stakeholders
  • Track and review individual and project team utilization and maintain forecasted hours
  • Manage project budget vs. actual project costs

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience effectively interacting with technical and non-technical resources
  • Experience working collaboratively with internal cross-functional and external vendor teams
  • Experience developing strategies that meet business goals within budget, time and scope
  • Experience managing project communications, conflicts, and negotiations
  • Experience identifying operational issues/risks, recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems
  • Experience in project planning, resource planning and scheduling
  • Experience with project monitoring, controlling and quality assurance

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
