The Department of Economics has an outstanding opportunity for Program Coordinator with the Advising Program. The position will report directly to the Academic Services Director and Administrator and provide a variety of program support functions in the department. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to customer service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Services
  • Provide timely responses to student inquiries via email, phone and in-person.
  • Maintain student files and student databases. Assist with compiling program reports and statistics.
  • Participate in evaluating admissions and applications.
  • Provide current and prospective students with general Department, College, and University requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Contribute to student recruiting efforts. Assist in new student orientations to welcome and inform incoming students regarding opportunities and procedures at the University.
  • Maintain current information on programs and services within the University community to counsel students in a holistic manner, including but not limited to Disability Resources for Students, Office of Global Affairs, International Student Services, First Year Programs, Counseling Center, and Career and Internship Center.
  • Develop plans and materials to recruit new majors. Participate in advising events across campus.
  • Attend appropriate meeting and workshops to keep abreast of changes or additions to academic programs and policies.

    Administration
  • Interpret procedures and policies for course registration and program development.
  • Maintain quarterly exit surveys for graduating seniors. Compile and present year-end results.
  • Develop and revise departmental advising materials, including websites, social media, and informational posters and flyers.
  • Coordinate tutoring resources for students in Economics courses.
  • Maintain and develop undergraduate website to provide current and efficient access to departmental information and related student services.
  • Coordinate with Savery Hall IT for computing and technical needs of Undergraduate Program.
  • Provide feedback on procedures on an ongoing basis to improve effectiveness.
  • Ensure paper and electronic program documents are kept up to date and to retention schedule. This includes evaluating and modifying documents and websites to improve information provided to students.
  • Collaborate with other units on campus to meet student needs.

    Other Duties
  • Assist with the planning, coordination and staffing of events within the department as needed, including recognition events, graduation receptions, orientations, student outreach, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.

    DESIRED
  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, science, engineering, humanities discipline, or equivalent.
  • Strong email and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, and a willingness to work with new software, technologies, and systems.
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive work and learning environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail. Comfortable in fast paced environment and multi-tasking.
  • Strategic thinking, sound judgment and discretion with access to sensitive information.
  • Previous experience working with students in an administrative setting and/or familiarity with academic advising.

    Additional:
  • Experience with internet browsers and email applications; willingness and ability to develop further computer expertise and act as resource for faculty and other staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service attitude toward faculty, staff, students and visitors.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform professionally and with discretion under the pressure of multiple deadlines and demands.
  • Familiarity with university student and faculty interests and concerns.
