Job Summary


The Program Assistant performs basic research, preliminary analysis, coordination and transactional support related to the Computing Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institutions (CAHSI) grant outcomes.

CAHSI formed in 2004 as a grassroots effort to increase the number of Hispanic students who pursue and complete baccalaureate and advanced degrees in Computer and Informational Sciences and Engineering (CISE) areas. CAHSI is a networked community of students, faculty, administrators and other professionals committed to accelerating the achievements of Hispanics in computing. CAHSI is a national NSF INCLUDES Alliance that spans across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Essential Functions

  • Perform independent evaluation, analysis and structure of the CAHSI grant requiring judgment to select and apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria to resolve problems and make recommendations.
  • Provide a streamlined process and procedural support to ensure compliance on policies and procedures required by NSF, UTEP and MCCCD. Responsible for quantitative and qualitative research and reports required by the organizations on a quarterly and annual basis, research data, analyzing findings, solutions and best practices within the national and global cyber security trends.
  • Responsible for constant and continuous reporting to the CAHSI backbone, developing and implementing goals, attend bi-weekly regional and MCCCD leadership meetings to report on actions and outcomes. Document sub-regional actions and progress in maintained spreadsheet for CAHSI Backbone. Meeting facilitator for MCCCD Co-Leads/team on a bi-weekly meeting basis for continuous engagement of grant duties and advocate mentoring updates.
  • Promote and assist sub-regional members in connecting to CAHSI online platforms.
  • Supervise CAHSI student advocates on projects, events and conferences; including the process and budgeting of stipends. Ensure advocate accountability and support on assignments during advocacy stint. Coordinate events with advocates, engaging and connecting regularly with team on outcomes and efforts moving forward. Oversee all work of student advocates and co-leads.
  • Regularly engage and maintain relationships with regional members, co-Leads, coordinators, advocates, and strategic partners, local K-12 schools for events, progress and accountability with a high focus on CTE programs.
  • Plan, organize, assign, supervise, review and evaluate the work of student advocates for CAHSI representation on all levels. Participation in work groups within the CAHSI regions to complete group projects on a monthly and quarterly time line.
  • Respond to all inquiries and issues from Co-Leads, Student Advocates and engaged partners; evaluate issues and researches alternative solutions.
  • Develop marketing and promotional materials.
  • Maintain CAHSI website hosted by Mesa Community College
  • Provide program policy and process information to student advocates, co-leads, coordinators, connectors and CAHSI backbone.
  • Maintain program records, documents, minutes, web content, and/or all related program communication materials.
  • Serve as a liaison to industry partners, engaged K-12 schools, students, and faculty; collaborates with others and provides professional level staff support and program representation to clients and partners with a high emphasis on CTE/workforce programs.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, correspondence and program documentation. Collaborate with others to provide professional level support and program representation to partners.
  • Plan meetings and events for various audiences while providing support to advance the agenda and capture data and material related to decision-making.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


A bachelor's degree and up to 4 years related work experience.

  • Prior work experience in an educational organization
  • Experience with scheduling and coordinating events
  • Prior supervisory experience
