Purpose of the job / Position description:
To supervise all activities necessary to produce products in a safe and efficient manner. To meet safety, quality, customer service and delivery targets. To drive continuous improvement, and to ensure optimum utilization of all equipment and personnel in the Bethune Advanced Solutions - Liquid Technologies manufacturing operation. Maintain and improve safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Main responsibilities:

  • Supervises approximately 10 to 50 production hourly employees, first, second or third shift, at the Bethune facility, to maintain efficient manufacturing methods including process control measurements and setups, utilizing knowledge of product design and scheduling, materials and parts, production equipment capabilities, quality control and shipping requirements, to accomplish goals of the manufacturing plan in order to maximize the production efficiency of the facility.
  • Knows, understands, follows, supports, develops and implements all local Health, Safety, and Environment laws/regulations, ISO 9001 and 45001 standards, and other Company standards applicable to the job function, and to ensure direct reports observe and follow these laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Achieves optimum employee levels with the least amount of overhead and raw material costs, balances and continuously works to improve quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas in order for the respective shift(s) to meet annual the budgetary plan.
  • Responsible for the training, development, and performance evaluations of the shift hourly production staff, with corrective action taken as necessary on a timely basis, in accordance with Company policies.
  • Reviews and analyzes the shift's production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems, following up with corrective action plans.
  • Order dies, pallets, cartons, frames and all essential materials and supplies to keep converting equipment running.
  • Oversees shift performance measures, maintaining raw material and stock inventories, including visual controls, and provides regular progress reports to the Production Manager.
  • Reviews / approves time cards.
  • Conducts daily Safety / Quality meetings with employees.
  • Participates / Leads continuous improvement teams to include the “ a plus” and Lean programs.
  • Has the ability to perform the operators’ jobs.
  • Actively leads and participates in the continuous improvement process. Incorporates continuous improvement/ Lean methodologies into manufacturing systems and operations.
  • Remains up-to-date with new equipment, processes, materials and procedures to assist in advancing site’s converting technology and capabilities.
  • Possesses a broad understanding of Company products and delivery schedules.
  • Represents the company in a professional, ethical and moral manner at all times.
  • Performs other projects and duties as assigned.

Shared Responsibilities:

  • Primary converting contact for Sales, Administration, and Accounting
  • Assist in implementation of capital projects, with Engineer
  • Schedule paper production, with Scheduling/Inventory Coordinator and Paper Machine Coordinator (MHS)
  • Expedite paper converting, as required, with Scheduling/Inventory Coordinator
  • Inventory control, including cycle counts and physical inventory with Scheduling/Inventory Coordinator and Converting Manager.
  • Training with Human Resources Manager and others.
  • With Human Resources, discipline employees according to rules established in employee handbook
  • With Quality Assurance, meet quality goals and specifications. Meet ISO requirements.
  • With Converting Manager and Scheduling & Inventory Coordinator schedule orders for department.
  • With Converting Manager and Purchasing Coordinator, maintain raw material inventory and deliveries.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in film converting, paper converting or textiles, either weaving or knitting.
  • Intermediate computer skills, specifically with MS Word and MS Excel
  • Three to five years experience supervising and directing a workforce of twenty (20) or more employees.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and education desired – Preferably in textiles, business or industrial engineering
High School Diploma Required, Associates preferred

Additional competencies/ Other requirements:

  • Must possesses the ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle controls, and talk or hear.
  • Must be able to frequently to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must possess the ability to bend, stoop, and lift items weighing 50+ pounds.
  • Must have the ability to work in a hot or cold environment within a manufacturing production setting, with exposure to working near moving mechanical parts.
  • Must have the ability to work on elevated platforms or surfaces.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to travel for training as required by the position.
  • Must have the ability to travel overnight as required by the position.
  • Must possess the ability to be on call 24/7 and / or to report to the plant as needed.
  • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills, including:

  • Decision making – improved quality and quantity of decisions. Follow through on ideas.

  • Interpersonal relations – Respond sensitively to the needs and feelings of others, regardless of their status. Contribute to positive team building within department and overall company.
  • Oral and written communication: Use grammar and vocabulary properly. Publish concise reports / updates / communications.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
