The Opportunity

The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation, implementation, and overall execution of the processing plant training program. They must be able to work closely with plant operators, supervisors, and management of various skill levels and experience to ensure consistent, safe, and effective operating strategies. They will engage with several key internal and external stakeholders such as equipment specialists to initiate and support safe and responsible processing operations. Individuals will continuously foster, support, and align their daily functions to reflect Jerritt Canyon's Core Values. This position must be able to effectively balance work between time in the field and office environments where high quality of work is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Review existing standard operating procedures, pre-operation inspection sheets, area inspection sheets and update as necessary.
  • Audit, review, and update training materials, courses, programs, and documentation on an annual or as-needed basis for continuous improvement and communicate changes to all crews to ensure consistency amongst the operating team.
  • Work with plant operation and technical groups to identify training opportunities and lead training programs to address deficits.
  • Lead the development of operator advancement requirements including study materials and examination on the process for competency verification.
  • Ensure quality and consistent design of training material and training curricula.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training programs for competency.
  • Create training programs to ensure that employees have the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitude to perform their assigned tasks in a safe, efficient, and environmentally sound manner.
  • Create and maintain accurate training records in accordance with MSHA regulations.
  • Conduct observations in collaboration with the operating departments.
  • Ability to create training courses based on site needs.
  • Lead training initiatives that may include forms of presentation such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, meetings, and workshops.
  • Excellent and demonstrated personal commitment to safety, health and training.
  • Assist in the standardization of divisional procedures, guidelines, and planned task observations.
  • Assist in the implementation of a Competency Based Training system that ensures information is delivered in a manner that employees will retain.
  • Assist in the tracking of task training and planned task observations.
  • Maintain document control and management of training-related documentation.
  • Maintain training records with associated supporting documentation in compliance with site repository directives.
  • Assist in the planning and scheduling of Annual Refresher Training for all employees.
  • Facilitate new miner, experienced miner, hazard, site and task specific training courses as needed.
  • Participate with alignment of site initiatives or mandates.

Education and Experience

  • MSHA Instructor Certification (blue card) preferred
  • Five (5) years of experience in processing plants, preferably with crushing, grinding, cyanidation, and roasting
  • Proven experience working with peer groups and focus teams required
  • Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time sensitive deadlines required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Excellent leadership skills and knowledge of influencing others required
  • Ability to promote safety in training and lead by example required
  • Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook preferred
  • Proven safe work record required
