Press Operator - HIRING IMMEDIATELY - St. Charles, IL - $3,500 Sign-On Bonus

Available shift: 11PM- 7AM

Compensation:

  • Starting rate $27.79 per hour + $1.50 Shift Premium and up based on experience

Responsibilities:

DESCRIPTION:

  • Leads crew in all phases of set-up, make-ready and operation of a rotogravure press with in-line cutting and creasing.
  • Assists in training of new employees and directing the daily duties of crew members.
  • Reads and understands job jackets. Uses information to ensure production is run according to specifications.
  • Performs machine make-ready to set it up to run proper production following make-ready check sheet.
  • Performs quality checks according to established procedures to ensure all quality standards are met (color matches and registration), interprets results, and makes necessary adjustments to press and other elements of the process as needed.
  • Recognizes various paper and boards and understands how other aspects of the printing process (heat, ink lay, etc.) affect the paper and boards.
  • Monitors the pH and viscosity of inks at the press. Makes appropriate adjustments to ensure that they maintain the appropriate readings. Chart the pH three times per shift and viscosity once per hour to ensure they are within the upper and lower control limits.
  • Making drying and laying adjustments to ensure smooth lay of ink.
  • Performs machine trouble shooting, makes adjustments, and minor repairs to correct quality or efficiency problems related to machine set-up or mechanical defects.
  • Uses common trade tools including micrometer, slip tester, scales, dinsometer, #2 Zahn cup, a stop watch. pH meter and spectrophotometer.
  • Performs preventative maintenance checks properly and in accordance with set schedules.
  • Follows safe work practices according to established procedures including, but not limited to, following lock-out/tag-out procedure; ensuring guards are in place and operational; performing routine housekeeping activities; and demonstrating safe behaviors.
  • Completes pre-make ready check sheets; documents downtime including amount of time, reason for downtime, and actions taken to correct problem; recording production quantities; tracking ink/alcohol consumption; etc.
