Job Details:

• Contract: Varies
• Pay Rate: $140/hr
• Shift: Monday- Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

Requirements:

• Completion of approved medical school and residency
• License to practice medicine in Virginia
• Broad medical knowledge and ability to practice medicine with acutely and chronically ill patient population
• Ability to provide training/supervision of medical students

• Facility Hospitalizations: Acute, Adult, Inpatient wards (male & female)
• Facility Demographics: Forensic, NGRI, Civil, Jail Transfer, and Geriatric populations
• Facility Stay: Short and Long-term length of stay
• Psychiatry coverage is provided
• Full complement of interdisciplinary team members

• Responsible for patient care that includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.
• Serves as medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.
• Completes admission medical assessments (including history and physical examinations, mental status examination) and entering admission orders
• Orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures
• Monitors patients’ progress, including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.
• Consults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.
• Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioner if needed providing DSM-5 Diagnoses that are valid, complete, and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.
• Provides coverage to the medical clinic, the admission suit to ensure the admission process is completed.
• Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices. Assesses and address medication side-effects and report adverse drug reactions.
• Ensures timely and quality documentation (admissions, follow-up and annual, etc.) in patient records in accordance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines.
