The Payroll Manager will perform complex payroll functions (accounting, auditing, reporting, and analysis) for the company s U.S. and Canadian payroll and will actively participate in system and process re-engineering efforts and help support all North American payroll for the company.

The ideal candidate would reside in either our Woburn, MA or Sacramento, CA office and will have a minimum of 10 years of payroll experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role showing progressive growth in responsibilities. The individual must have expert knowledge of U.S. (Federal, State and local) tax laws and must also have demonstrated broad capability and experience with ADP (Canadian experience a plus). The individual must also have expert knowledge of payroll and related laws and regulations, including wage and hour, overtime regulations, paid leaves, vacation, and sick pay.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage payroll operations for all entities, ensuring integrity of payroll systems and payroll processes, and the timely, accurate delivery of pay to Company personnel.
  • Manage payroll staff and the day-to-day payroll operations for the weekly and bi-weekly U.S. and Canada payrolls, as well as off-cycle payrolls.
  • Provide strong and effective leadership across teams through collaboration, communication, problem solving, innovation, execution, and results.
  • Manage all activities directly related to the development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the Company s payroll function and systems, according to internal policy and industry standards.
  • Mange payroll compliance with applicable U.S. (Federal and State) and Canadian (Provincial) requirements and regulations, including registering with appropriate state and provincial taxing agencies to deposit payroll taxes and complying with all reporting requirements.
  • Ensure Company s compliance with data privacy, IRS, FLSA, workers compensation, state, provincial, local, and agency regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Manage internal and external audits for Retirement Plan, workers compensation, and internal controls, etc. Ensure relevant procedures, work papers and other supporting documents are maintained and up to date.
  • Serve as technical expert for payroll issues through a deep understanding of payroll & related employment law, wage & hour law, including overtime regulations, tax regulations and accounting principles.
  • Collaborate and assist on the Company s deferred compensation plans and equity program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business or related field. Equivalent work experience may be substituted for degree.
  • 5+ years of experience managing payroll in a multi-State/Province and multi-entity environment.
  • Experience managing, coaching, and developing a payroll team.
  • Proven experience collaborating between payroll, finance, and human resources teams.
  • Extensive and thorough knowledge of payroll and related federal, state, and local regulations, including wage and hour, overtime regulations, paid leaves, vacation, and sick pay. Prevailing wage and Canadian experience preferred, but not required.
  • Highly ethical, analytical, team-oriented, flexible, inquisitive, and logical.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience with ADP workforce now, Fidelity PSW Data Management, and BST ERP system a plus.
  • Experience in a professional services company and with implementing timekeeping systems preferred.
  • APA Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) a plus.
