Required qualifications:
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License
- Training on spotlighting and collecting samples will be provided, although
previous experience and knowledge with animal capturing and handling is
preferred.
- Ability to use GPS and maps to navigate remote areas, and be comfortable
driving off-road in unfavorable conditions.
- Selected candidates should be able to work both as a team and
independently, work in odd hours for several hours at a time, walk long
distances outdoors, and deal with adverse conditions outdoors.
Brief description of duties:
- Building and maintaining walk-in traps
- Scouting for killdeer and killdeer nests across Iowa
- Capturing killdeer and collecting morphometric data
- Working with the state wildlife veterinarian to collect and process
diagnostic samples from killdeer and possibly other shorebird species
- Spotlighting for killdeer at night
- Identify, sort, and label research samples
- Maintain and clean equipment and vehicle
