The job is in support of the Joint Navigation Warfare Center (JNWC) located at Kirtland AFB, NM. The JNWC supports the US Space Command mission by enabling Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) superiority for the Department of Defense, Interagency, and Coalition Partners comprised of members from all services. You don’t need to be a navigation warfare expert when you get here; nobody was, but we learned. You are not required to perform this mission by yourself. We create a team for every COCOM or area of responsibility (AOR). It’s a Team Sport.


Responsibilities:

  • BIG PICTURE: Support joint warfighting Combatant Commanders (CoCOM) for issues related to Global Positioning System (GPS), Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT), Navigation Warfare (NAVWAR).
  • Member of the JNWC Current Operations Division assigned to a theater team dedicated to supporting a CoCOM
  • Develop understanding of potential adversaries in the assigned area of responsibility (AOR) and their ability to disrupt Blue Force understanding of position, navigation, and time (PNT)
  • Support exercises by planning Navwar exercise injects intended to degrade Blue Force PNT knowledge consistent with exercise Red Force capabilities and tactics.
  • Develop NAVWAR training and perform assessments for CCMD and Service Commanders in your AOR.
  • Provide NAVWAR threat analysis and assessments for operational planning.
  • Communication AOR information requirements to the Modeling and simulation team.
  • Provide reach back support to joint operational warfighters.
  • Prepare and present briefings and papers on NAVWAR matters to operational and professional audiences.

Required Skills:

  • Understanding that precise employment of military force requires knowledge or your location and target location
  • Generally, understand that Navwar is an adversary’s attempt to disrupt Blue Force PNT knowledge
  • Professional knowledge of Electronic Warfare effects; not required to be an EW expert.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain good working relations.
  • Professional knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to do shift work for exercise support (limited).

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of GNSS, PNT, and NAVWAR implementation and effects.
  • Understanding of Department of Defense structure and operations, with emphasis on Combatant Commands and theater operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; negotiate complex and/or sensitive issues; and maintain good working relations

Required Experience:

  • 5-10 years of military experience doing any of the following: joint operations centers, operational planning processes, training, or field exercise planning.
  • Basic understanding of GPS /PNT /NAVWAR as applied to military systems and operational capabilities
  • Position requires CONUS /OCONUS travel to support exercise planning and execution.
  • US Citizenship and an active TS/SCI required to be considered for the position
