Position Overview & Responsibilities:
Responsible for animal mortality, manure, and water system operational activities. Complete scheduled projects to timeline and quality standards of company. Effectively work with production and maintenance staff to maximize efficiency, quality of work and productivity of departments.


Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Animal mortality system operations
    • Participate in the development of an optimum mortality disposal system that maximizes efficiency, reduces cost, complies with all biosecurity requirements, and is adaptive to different environmental conditions.
      • Oversee the incineration process, including the
        • Loading of mortalities
        • Removal and disposal of ash
      • Facilitate the composting process, including the
        • Creation of compost windrows
        • Turning of compost windrows
        • Disposal of completed compost material
      • Oversee the drop off of mortalities for the rendering process.
    • Manage and execute the daily pick up and removal of animal mortalities according to biosecurity protocols
    • Complete required animal mortality system compliance monitoring forms
  • Manure system operations
    • Complete required manure system compliance monitoring forms
    • Monitor manure storage levels based on storage capacity and required timelines; monitor and assess drainage systems, addressing issues as needed
    • Oversee lift station operations
    • Operate manure separator
    • Ensure efficient and compliant transfer of manure solids from manure separator to the fields
    • Analyze and recommend improvements to manure system that meet biosecurity requirements, improve farm efficiency, and meets company environmental and sustainability goals
  • Equipment Operations
    • Ensure all agricultural equipment, including wheel loader, tractor, skid-steer, manure application equipment (liquid and solid), and other equipment, is operating efficiently and safely
    • Operate and clean equipment including but not limited to power washing
    • Recommend new equipment or modified equipment to improve operations
  • Water system operations
    • Evaluate water system operations
  • Equipment Support
    • Maintenance and minor repair of equipment specific to CFF and its producers
  • Non-priority Repair and Preventative Maintenance
    • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for agricultural equipment
    • Perform scheduled repairs to company quality and cost standards
    • Provide service for farm group, including carpentry, plumbing, and steel repair
  • Other Projects
    • Lead projects designed to improve agricultural equipment operation
  • Nutrient System Maintenance
    • Develop and execute maintenance procedures on animal mortality system (wheel loaders, tractors, skid-steer, trailers, incinerator, etc).
    • Develop and execute maintenance procedures on manure system (manure storage areas, lift stations, manure separators, etc).
    • Clean and sanitize equipment to biosecurity standards
  • Seasonal Agronomy Equipment Preparation
    • Develop procedures for seasonal agronomy equipment management system and preparation plan
    • Ensure nutrient management equipment is appropriately maintained and prepared for use and storage
  • Site Care
    • Landscape maintenance, weed eating, seeding, and tree planting projects
    • Operate lawn mowing and other site care equipment such as weed trimmer, pesticide sprayers, and tractors
    • Participate in snow removal, grounds keeping, and various seasonal preparations.
