The Nurse Educator (RN) develops, organizes, implements, coordinates, and tracks educational programs for all staff. Ensures in-services for all staff and training materials, information, videos, etc. are up to date and follows Federal/State regulations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive education programs to meet the orientation and ongoing competency and professional development needs for all staff.
  • Ensures all training and education programs meet the Department of Nursing and regulatory expectations and standards.
  • Collaborates with operational leaders to design and develop educational opportunities to achieve specific outcomes related to identified deficits or opportunities for improvement in knowledge, skills, and practice.
  • Develops new skills check training yearly for ongoing skills, including competencies and not limited to assessment skills, clinical skills, medication administration, and documentation/communication.
  • Ensures that newly trained Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) are tested within the four-month period after completion of the Long-Term Nurse Aide Training Class.
  • Evaluates Reside Assistants (RA) for preparedness to attend the Long-Term Nurse Aide Class.
  • Orients, oversees, and evaluates newly hired employees.
  • Oversees orientation, as part of the onboarding process, to ensure that new hire/transfer employees have the knowledge and skill to safely practice independently in their role.
  • Participates in quality performance improvement activities.
  • Plans, develops, and evaluates the preceptor program to enhance the orientation process and the retention of staff. Provides leadership to preceptors and serves as a role
  • Evaluates skills and/or provides retraining of Nursing employees as part of the discipline process.
  • Maintains and provides in-service agendas, attendance records in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • Assists the Facility’s EMR Coordinator/IT Manager with the Facility’s EMR vendor and coordinates all programs and in-services accordingly.
  • Attends QAPI Meetings. May be required to complete audits as directed by the committee. Maintain Education QAPI dashboard to report on follow-up for identified education needs.
  • May perform any duties of a staff nurse.
  • Organizes and maintain records, available on request, for every nurse training and competency skills check.
  • Model through educational programs and ongoing coaching and mentoring.
  • Provides guidance, resources, and knowledge for professional growth of others.
  • Schedules all annual clinical skills.
  • Supports the whole the organization with the education tracking in Relias, annual competencies, and career pathing.
  • All other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS):

  • Licensure: Registered nurse (RN) in the state of Michigan.
  • Education: Associates degree in nursing is required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of experience with orientation and education of nursing staff in clinical setting preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in education program design and evaluation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively under time requirements and deadlines, problem-solve when facing unexpected issues, handle interruptions, and prioritize effectively.
  • Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Previous experience, in a rehabilitation or acute care setting is preferred but not required.
  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making, delegation, and leadership skills.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Well versed in ADDIE model and other instructional design models (PREFERRED)
