Full Time: a position working 35+ hours per week. The starting pay range for this position begins at $19.06/hour and is based on the level of qualifications and relevant experience above the minimum requirements.

This position oversees the compost, biodiesel, and solar programs within sustainable Agriculture at Biltmore. The incumbent will be responsible for launching the centralized on-site composting expansion that will be collecting animal manures and pre-consumer food waste from the estate. The primary function of this position is to provide skilled operation and oversight of the natural resource programs in order to position Biltmore as a continued responsible steward of the environment. The incumbent will also provide general support and assistance to the department, leadership, and company.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Manage and execute every aspect of the composting program- collecting and mixing material, recording temperatures, curing, and spreading of final product
2. Maintain all equipment and processes relating to the composting operation
3. Manage and execute every aspect of the biodiesel production program including picking up waste oil, running chemical reactions, and quality control testing of finished fuel
4. Maintain all equipment and processes relating to the biodiesel production
5. Manage both solar fields- serve as point of contact for maintenance contracts as schedule necessary service, monitoring of output, weed control, and assisting in long term decision making regarding the field
6. Deliver agriculture and sustainability tours that provide a quality guest experience in the vein of gracious hospitality. Continue to research and refine tours with most up to date information
7. Research opportunities for improvement and keep updated on industry best practices and technological developments
8. Monitor soil fertility in Agriculture fields
9. Submit annual renewals through the state of North Carolina as needed for permitted yard waste facilities on the property.

Qualifications:

1. Two year degree in environmental or agriculture sciences. Four-year degree preferred. Related training or certification(s) preferred.
2. At least two (2) years experience implementing sustainable agriculture programs. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
3. At least one (1) year experience operating heavy equipment. Experience operating skid steers, tractors, hauling trailers, and using manure spreaders preferred.
4. Demonstrated commitment to world class internal/external customer service; proven leadership skills; ability to serve as part of a cross-functional team effectively
5. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to convey information clearly, effectively builds positive working relationships

Physical Requirements:

1. Work outdoors in all temperatures
2. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs frequently
3. Must be able to walk up to 6 hrs per day
4. Must be able to sit for up to 6 hrs per day
5. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid NC driver's license.
