Overview: Medication technicians distribute and administer medications to residents in the community as prescribed by the physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Qualifications:

  • Freedom from the illegal use of drugs.
  • Freedom from the use of and effects of drugs and alcohol in the work place.
  • Persons who have been found guilty by court of law abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in the position.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Prefer recent experience in a healthcare environment and completion of Medication pass administration training.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Competency in using electronic medical records.
  • Experience using Point Click Care(PCC) Not required.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Distribute and administer medication to residents timely as prescribed by the physician.
  • Administer breathing and skin treatment to residents according to physician’s prescription.
  • Accurately record the administration of medication.
  • Assess, monitor and document residents’ progress, symptoms and medication reactions to the Wellness Director/Nurse on shift.
  • Reports changes in resident’s condition to the Wellness Director/Nurse on shift.
  • Inform Director of Wellness/Nurse on shift of all refusals of medications.
  • Perform and record vital signs, weights and finger stick blood sugar monitoring.
  • Collects samples for testing.
  • Receive deliveries from pharmacy, checks deliveries against orders and verifies accuracy.
  • Demonstrate awareness of proper infection control practice by using standard precautions.
  • Maintain compliance to resident’s rights and confidentiality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized medication cart and medication room.
  • Perform care staff duties as assigned when not passing medications.
  • Routinely inspects, cleans and monitors equipment and supply to ensure safety.
  • Maintains medication cart inventory and restocking.
  • Assist with meals and clean up meal-related items.
  • Completes a detailed oral report; clear and concise written documentation of daily events.
  • Ability to adapt to constantly changing environments while still providing high quality care.
  • Demonstrate integrity and honesty while interacting with residents, guests, team members and managers.
  • Promotes resident’s wellness and life engagement in the community.
  • Or any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, the Wellness Director, and or the supervisor on shift
