HarperCollins Focus (HCF) and Cider Mill Press are seeking an experienced and highly organized Marketing and Sales Manager. Successful candidates will be self-starters who are energetic and multi-task oriented.

This position is vital to the success of our product presentations, marketing, and sales efforts. Through initiative and forward-thinking, you will customize presentation materials across a wide and varied number of accounts and channels. You will also manage the online marketing and public relations for the division. In collaboration with the VP & Publisher, you will also manage assigned publishing processes along with the operational support for the Cider Mill Press division.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with internal sales teams to create appropriate sales materials.
  • Ensuring required information is accurate and entered into appropriate systems for titles to be presented seasonally by sales reps for their assigned accounts.
  • Manage online marketing and public relations for approximately seventy-five new releases per year.
  • Review existing materials and create additional resources for marketing campaigns, sales conference materials, and catalogs.
  • Event management through key conference and gift show (such as Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas, New York, etc.) attendance. This includes all coordination with internal departments to create power points, spreadsheets, sales grids, showroom schematics, etc.
  • Ensure data load availability and accuracy for accounts ahead of the meeting dates.
  • Collaborate with publisher to generate and analyze sales and POS reports to identify new and emerging accounts, namely within the specialty and non-traditional channels.
  • Manage curated mailings to key accounts to grow business across front-list and back-list and establish connections with key buying contacts at various retailers.
  • Set-up and distribute weekly and monthly sales reports to customers and internal sales teams to ensure business growth across all sales channels. Ad hoc reporting as required.
  • Organize frequent sales presentations tailored for specific accounts and channels.
  • Order author copies, send review copies to media.
  • Review sales reports to compare sales projections to budget.
  • Submit books for awards, i.e., James Beard, Reading the West, etc.
Qualifications:
Knowledge: Must possess (or quickly obtain) a high level of knowledge and insight into what book customers want and feel they need.

Work Experience:
4+ years of marketing or sales experience highly desired.

Education:
B.A. or equivalent work required, preferably in the field of business, marketing, or management.

Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with book publishing industry is desired but not essential.

Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Power Point. Preferred knowledge of Edelweiss, MDM and Onix.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to embrace technological tools and resources.
  • Social media savvy.
  • Above average level of creativity.
  • Strong analytical mind. Must have the ability to dissect and interpret large amounts of data available from multiple sources.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to influence others.

  • Able to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
  • Flexible and able to re-prioritize with little or no notice.
  • Able to own projects and regularly build them into workflow.
