The Manager, Finance R&D oversees the financial planning and analysis processes and requirements across businesses supported, such as clinical trial operations and a joint venture. Prepares consolidated analysis of actual vs. benchmark results and supports key projects and initiatives to improve financial processes. The Finance Manager interacts with all levels of finance and provides required planning deliverables to meet AbbVie Corporate FP&A requirements.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Financial Business Partner, collaborates and provides routine support to team members to enable informed decision-making.
  • Works directly with clinical trial study teams and CRO’s partners to capture spend, understand changes in scope, and forecast future expense. Understand the complex nature of both clinical studies and the matrixed environment used to report them.
  • Champions Financial Forecast Accuracy for the business supported.
  • Acts as a key team member of the extended R&D cross Therapeutical Areas Externals Spend Financial Management team.
  • Acts as a bridge in one of our Joint Ventures between the CRO’s, the partner and the business supported to provide financial insights.
  • Oversee aspects of monthly, quarterly and annual forecasts as required, including External CRO’s spend, P&L, headcount, balance sheet and capital. Provide relevant variance analysis for each planning cycle and develop meaningful management reporting schedules while ensuring accuracy of results and key metrics.
  • Support monthly close process to ensure complete, accurate and timely monthly actual results, including variance analysis and commentary for P&L, headcount and balance sheet. Consolidate drivers from all businesses supported and understand the impact of monthly results on future forecasts.
  • Assist with the monitoring and forecasting of expenses related to collaboration agreements.
  • Support ad hoc analysis, key projects, and initiatives (e.g., planning system standardization, management reporting and optimization) and drives process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting preferred. MBA a plus.
  • Minimum 7+ years of progressive and related experience.
  • Strong financial, analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to simplify the complex.
  • Ability to operate independently, drive processes, identify and implement process improvements, establish and adjust priorities to achieve objectives and operate with speed and agility.
  • Skilled building networks and collaborating with business partners
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with all levels of management supported.
  • Execute priorities with speed and agility.
  • Proficient Excel skills required.
  • Knowledge of SAP, TM1, database management and PowerBi a plus.
