Basic Function –
This position reports to the Director of Facility Operations, and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of ICA facilities and related work as required. The Maintenance Mechanic II will maintain an organizational culture that emphasizes our core values and fosters an inclusive, collaborative, innovative, and nimble environment.

This position will serve as the primary building contact for Alaska Airlines Arena, including operational areas such as: the basketball coaches’ offices, golf operations center, gymnastics and basketball practice areas, Olympic sports training room and 14 locker rooms. The Maintenance Mechanic II will be responsible for the daily preparation of those areas for practices and games in addition to planning, supervising and executing the maintenance of those areas as needed. This position will also serve as a primary or secondary contact for other ICA buildings as assigned.

Arena & Building Operations (75%) –
Conduct or assist the maintenance, operation and repair of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems of Alaska Airlines Arena and corresponding ICA facilities as assigned. Assist trades workers by performing duties related to carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, steam-fitting, mechanical or electrical work, refrigeration maintenance, machinists’ trades, etc. in the fabrication of equipment and materials constructed in trades shops in accordance with project requirements. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs of all types of mechanical and athletic-specific equipment. Submit work requests to UW Facilities Services and coordinate maintenance with UWFS shops. Assist with responding to emergency facility-related issues.

Lead and perform work with utility workers and other facilities workers in construction, repair, maintenance, and cleaning of the Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) grounds, buildings and facilities. Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others in and around the buildings. Ensure environment is maintained in a pristine condition for the safety of students, staff, and visitors. Develop preliminary cost estimates for maintenance, construction and repair work. Order supplies, equipment and tools required for projects. Read and interpret plans, blueprints and sketches. Perform routine repairs to locks, floors, walls, ceilings, roofs, stairs, surfaces, sports specific equipment, and other related items. Lead and assist with pressure washing and snow removal.

Develop and direct daily maintenance and preventive maintenance programs. Maintain adherence to safety policies and procedures. Maintain records and inventory for equipment and tools.

Operate power tools and equipment such as saws, drills, blowers, welders, electric/gas engine driven compressors, pressure washers, lawn mowers, snow removal machines, pneumatic tamper, jackhammer and portable pumps. Operate motorized equipment, such as automobiles, trucks (including dump trucks), forklifts, small tractors and front-end loaders, street cleaning equipment, trailers and trenchers. Maintain and trouble shoot repairs and/or recommend further repairs as needed for facilities equipment including mowers, vacuums, tractors, gators, blowers, etc.

Event Operations (20%) –
Provide set up, game day coverage, and clean up for athletic and special events, camps or other events in Alaska Airlines Arena and other ICA buildings as assigned. Develop layouts for facilities including bleachers, chairs, tables, backdrops, and staging. Assure sites are returned to original conditions. Set up and maintenance of sport specific equipment including but not limited to game and practice basketball goals, gymnastics standards, volleyball nets and competition floor (tarraflex), Daktronics equipment (scorers tables, videoboards, and shot clocks), retractable bleachers, various pieces of staging, tables and chairs.

Lead seasonal staff or student staff to accomplish day-to-day tasks and during events. Assist in day of game operations for football, men’s and women’s basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, and other events as assigned which includes setup, monitoring specified areas during the game, and cleaning the facility.

This may include leading a group of volunteers, students, and/or temporary labor.

Miscellaneous (5%) –
Perform other related duties as required.
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Pac-12 Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Minimum Requirements –
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a journey worker, OR full-journey status in a union; OR four years applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license may be required.

Additional Requirements –
Ability to work overtime shifts (nights, weekends, and holidays) for ICA events such as Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Gymnastics, and other ICA events as assigned. Ability to work overtime shifts to support rental events such as graduations, banquets, concerts, etc. Ability to work all football games and Commencement. Ability to work in inclement weather.

This position is designated as one that performs an “essential function”. This position’s incumbent must continue to report to work in the event that the University suspends operations because of severe weather, natural disaster, or other emergency conditions.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Shift –
Monday through Friday, 7:00 am-3:30 pm. Availability for variable shift and overtime during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
