Job description

· Required to actively monitor, survey, and control activity at the Veteran’s Memorial Park pool facility.

· Enforce regulations or policies for the safety of pool patrons

· Perform first aid and lifesaving activities when necessary. Lifeguards respond to water related emergencies as well as accidents, injuries, or other types of emergencies affecting the public safety at the pool; and are responsible for the general overall safety of the waterfront area to which they are assigned.

· Must be 16 years of age or older

· Must be reliable, friendly and able to work directly with the public, especially children

· DUTIES include but not limited to:

o Able to work 20-36 hours per week (which will include weekends)

o Pool hours range between 10 am – 6 pm

o Pool is open 7 days per week between July 2 – August 21, 2022

• The lifeguard is responsible for providing own guard attire, though staff tee shirts will be made available for all staff.
• Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Conducting the chemical reading of the pool and logging accordingly.
• Ensure all safety lifesaving items are available and attainable in its proper placement

during the shift and that all items are properly stored at the end of the day.

• Perform minor maintenance duties including, but not limited to, skimming the pool water and cleaning filter strainers daily
• Additional duties at Pool Manager’s discretion

· For candidates currently non-surf certified:

o Updated American Red Cross Certification for Lifesaving/First Aid/CPR/AED (must furnish copy when applying)

o Candidate will receive $17 / hour

o Candidate will be reimbursed one-half of the certification cost (up to $175), after completing 1 season with the City of Pawtucket as outlined in a supplemental agreement

· For candidates currently wanting to attain non-surf certification:

• The City of Pawtucket will reimburse interested candidates up to $300 to participate in the American Red Cross Certificate Course for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED taking place from April 25 through May 9. Attendance for all 5 classes, in addition to taking the exam is mandatory.

o Interested candidates must respond no later than April 6, as an interview is required)

o Upon completion of the course and attaining the American Red Cross Certification for Lifesaving/First Aid/CPR/AED, the candidate is required to work at the Veteran’s Park Pool for the 2022 season

o Candidate will receive $16 / hour after completing the course and attaining certification
