The Charles Riverboat Company is a Boston based boat company operating sightseeing cruises and private chartered events on the Charles River and Boston Harbor. Join our onboard crew to help create the best experience for our guests this summer!

Position Overview: The Charles Riverboat Company is currently hiring a Lead 1st Mate to play a pivotal role in setting our crew up for success on all of our public and private cruises. This is a fast-paced environment with flexible schedules and hours. As Lead 1st Mate, you’ll be responsible for the overview of set-up, duration, and break-down of private cruises. In addition, you’ll be specially trained to handle the lines, vessel safety, and basic maintenance of vessel systems. This is the ideal position for anyone interested in gaining seatime and pursuing their captain’s license or to grow within the marine industry.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist with greeting guests and creating a seamless guest experience
• Meet and exceed all guest requests and expectations with professional attitude
• Set-up and breakdown of bar and tables for all private events
• Follow and initiating safety procedures in order to ensure protection of passengers and vessel
• Line handling and safe dockage of the boat
• Maintain the cleanliness of bar and vessels

Job Qualifications:

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
• Pre-employment and on-going random drug testing required for all marine personnel*
• Exert physical effort in lifting/transporting at least 40 pounds
• Customer service experience (preferred, but not required)
• Maritime / boating experience (preferred, but not required)
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and some holidays is a MUST
• Outgoing and energetic personality
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced and changing environment
• Ability to work as an individual and as part of a team
• Must enjoy spending time outside on the water

Potential for year round employment and further training to progress to captain or mechanic available for the right candidate.

*All employees must pass a pre-employment drug test as required by the US Coast Guard.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
