Total Compensation Statement

Your Benefits are a significant part of your state compensation. The total compensation package could be anywhere from $69,731 to $80,383 annually. The total compensation package includes annual salary, insurance, retirement, leave and holidays.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position serves as a Law Enforcement Intelligence Analyst II within the Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence of the Florida Highway Patrol. This position compiles, analyzes, and distributes information and intelligence from various sources. This position researches data related to assigned criminal topic areas relevant to the Florida Highway Patrol, Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence, to include but not limited to driver license fraud, motor vehicle fraud, narcotics trafficking, officer safety and human smuggling.


Preferred Qualifications

  • At least four (4) years of experience where your primary function was intelligence or analysis AND a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related discipline.
  • At least six (6) years of experience where your primary function was intelligence or analysis.

Job Related Requirements

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing. A driver’s license history review will be conducted on all candidates in consideration for the position.
  • Be able to travel in state and out of state limited travel.
  • Be able to alternate shifts/workdays as required based on agency need.
  • Be able to be on-call overnight and weekends.
  • The position you are applying is subject to a Level 2 background check, along with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, to include a fingerprint-based check of the criminal records of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Chapter 110.1127, 435 and 943, Florida Statutes. Please note that, since this position requires CJIS clearance, the Department will have access to all an applicant’s criminal and juvenile delinquency records, even those that have been sealed or expunged.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the fields of criminal or military intelligence, financial and investigative analysis, and/or working for a law enforcement agency.
  • Knowledge of logic and critical thinking concepts.
  • Possess organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of intelligence-related research methods, including qualitative and quantitative techniques, statistics, structured analytic techniques, and datamining.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and research criminal trends and patterns while data mining.
  • Ability to rapidly assimilate large amounts of complex data.
  • Ability to organize data into a logical format and prepare presentations, reports, charts, graphs, diagrams and other pictorial representations of statistical data, in support of law enforcement investigations and prosecutions
  • Ability to speak in front of groups and make effective presentations.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a team.
  • Ability to operate a computer/computer application (e.g., Microsoft Suite, DAVID, CAD, PenLink, etc.) and to quickly learn new software programs.
  • Ability to effectively manage time, multiple projects, tasks and work with stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement and criminal justice personnel on local, state, federal and international levels.
  • Ability to testify in court, as needed.
  • Skill in communicating effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in providing customer service to diverse cliental in a tactful, courteous manner.

General Information

  • The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
  • Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
  • The process for selecting applicant(s) for this position could take up to six months. Following the six-month period, a new application must be submitted to an open advertisement to be considered for that vacancy.
  • FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
