Organization: Boys & Girls Club of Portage County (non-profit, youth service)
Hours: Part-Time, Hourly (varies from 10-35 hours per week) Ages: 14-17
Location: Club Sites
Reports to: Workforce Development Program Coordinator

Position Summary: Junior Staff are responsible for assisting Program Leaders and/or Directors with direct service to the Club members. Includes implementing activities, supervising kids, discipline, and cleaning duties. Junior Staff work closely with Workforce development specialist to develop workforce skills, such as, time management, customer service, professionalism and other soft skill development. They will also receive on-the-job youth development training and Career Launch training/programming to assist with development of basic job duties. Junior Staff will work directly with staff, volunteers, directors, and other organizational initiatives that support the mission of the Boys & Girls Club.

Primary Duties:

  • Receive on the job training to develop their skill set to plan & lead daily, weekly, and special event activities
  • Promote activity participation by youth
  • Work with Club members to ensure that there is a productive work environment
  • Ensure all programs are safe & meaningful
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to Club members
  • Supervise Club members in a program area
  • Assist with and ensure discipline policies are enforced during each program
  • Track participation numbers for each activity
  • Follow and assist with the daily & weekly cleaning schedule
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, neat, and properly equipped program area
  • Develop meaningful, safe, and positive relationships with all club members and families (when able)
  • Participate in special programs and/or events
  • Attend field trips
  • May be able to provide First Aid/CPR
  • Complete all duties, tasks or assignments given by supervisor
  • Arrive on time according to the staff schedule and prepared to work
  • Appear dressed in a professional manner, wear club shirt and name badge

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

  • Standing or walking for up to 8 hours a day
  • Pushing or lifting of up to 50lbs
  • Ability to handle high noise level for extensive periods of time

Skills / Knowledge Required:

  • Communicate effectively with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Courteous and professional to all staff, club members, and families.
  • Motivate youth and help manage behavior problems
  • Work with the general public
  • Assist with organizing and supervising club members in a safe environment
