An iSeries Administrator III is responsible for the design, implementation, management and support of all IBM iSeries/AS400 enterprise systems supporting the wholesale, retail, franchise and ecommerce systems of a large aftermarket automotive company.

Job Responsibilities

Primarily responsible for the maintenance and administration of IBM iSeries servers and multiple partitions including; message handling, command line utilities, work management, job and print control, device management, system configuration, performance management and tuning, system security, backup and restore, disaster recovery, file transfer integration and PTF (Program Temporary Fix) management.

Duties Also Include:

  • Configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of DS8880 disk storage systems including installation of codes bundles, firmware updates, and FC setup.
  • Ability to manage PowerHA server environment with LPARS using independent auxiliary storage pools.
  • Performance analysis and system tuning experience using iDoctor, CCSS, and Performance Navigator tools.
  • Basic knowledge of iSeries programming languages including CL, RPG, and COBOL.
  • Coordinate the maintenance, incident, change and release management activities throughout these systems.
  • Provide management reporting related to all systems.
  • Review, analyze and recommend system features and solutions.
  • Communicate to senior management on incident and problem management and project status
  • Participate in cross functional project planning as needed
  • Develop and implement initiatives and strategies for areas supported. Ensure strategies, objectives, and initiatives are in line with the overall corporate initiatives, strategies, and goals.

Qualifications

Required Hard Skills:

  • Significant experience in the design, implementation and management of IBM iSeries platforms
  • Knowledge of the planning, organization, implementation and management of DB2 for iSeries databases
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning systems, specifically SAP
  • Working knowledge of information technology systems, infrastructure and operations
  • Working knowledge of retail Point of Sale (POS) systems
  • Working knowledge of Warehouse Management and Logistics
  • Working knowledge of Sales and Operations Execution (S&OP) systems
  • Ability to meet expected delivery dates and the tasks necessary to achieve objectives


Soft Skills:

Successful candidates will possess excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills. They must have a flexible, organized work style necessary to balance the need for daily operational support versus the need for long term software development related projects.


Degree and Education Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field would be considered the minimum for this position.


Work Experience:

This position requires at least five years’ experience in managing iSeries/AS400 systems.
