Employment Dates

• June 9, 2023 - August 23, 2023, with some pre-summer planning and meetings
• August 21-23 will be at 2 locations; all staff are expected to work until August 23
• Staff hours and location may change to meet youth and program needs

Hours/Locations

• Vary between 6:15 am-6:15 pm M-F
• Shift hours may vary per day and may be 4 or 5 days/week
• Locations are *Edinbrook, *Fernbrook, Oakview, and Rice Lake. (*indicates a health site where a nurse is always located)
• Staff hours/locations may be adjusted due to youth attendance, staffing, and/or field trips

Summer Overview

• Friday, June 9, and Monday/Tuesday June 12 and 13 are Summer Set Up Days for staff only
• Youth attend program June 14 to August 23
• All summer staff are expected to work June 9 to August 23
• Staff can take up to 5 unpaid days off
• Summer Kidstop is CLOSED June 19, July 3, and July 4

Who We Are: Kidstop offers a robust summer experience for incoming K youth up to 5th grade. We serve around 1,000 working families and support their youth over the summer months. We are committed to providing an enriching, caring, safe environment with fun and exciting choices for youth to engage in daily. youth are in a choice-based environment and will have a homebase to check in with 3 times per day. We create space for learning what our youth want to do and then implement their ideas into our days. We support all youth and build in accommodations as needed to support all youth. We are located in 4 elementary buildings during the summer months. In each building our youth break into grade levels of K-1, 2-3, 4-5. Each grade level has different choices and areas in the school. We incorporate age-appropriate field trips throughout the summer.

The Position: We are hiring Kidstop Instructors to help and assist youth throughout the day by providing active supervision in multiple spaces along with leading and creating enriching opportunities for youth across different age groups or groupings. Most shifts are during the core hours of our program.

Responsibilities of this role during the summer:

Health and Safety

• Follow all District, program and building health and safety procedures.
• Communicate verbally and in writing accidents or incidents concerning youth or staff in conjunction with the site and program leaders.

Supervision and Security

• Support and actively supervise all youth in the program at all times.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy of youth and families.
• Assist in field trips as needed and/or support the overall program by adjusting hours and/or locations.

Communication, Teamwork, and Partnerships

• Work in collaboration with Program Managers, Lead Instructors and all staff to maintain the continual well-being of youth in the program.
• Follow up on areas with families around concerns or general feedback, complete documentation or communication forms as needed.
• Provide excellent customer service to our youth, staff and families. This includes greeting and ensuring youth are signed in/out of our program.
• Perform additional site duties as assigned.

Inclusive Environment

• Assist with medical, physical or behavioral needs as necessary
• Operate adaptive equipment (i.e., wheelchairs, augmentative communication devices, assistive technology) and ensure their safe and proper use as needed.
• Assist youth with self-care tasks (i.e., feeding, dressing, toileting). Lifting, moving and transitioning may be necessary for repositioning and/or functional tasks as needed. Under the direction of a licensed school nurse or registered nurse, perform basic medical procedures to include, but not limited to, tube feedings, seizure recognition and precautions, etc.
• Observe, collect, document and report data as directed through an IEP if applicable. Communicate with appropriate personnel as dictated by Federal Education Reporting Practices Act (FERPA) and District and program policies.

Quality Programming

• Support & facilitate a variety of enriching activities that promote social and emotional and overall well being of our youth.
• Lead youth in small and/or large groups.
• Engage with youth to meet their social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs.
• Active supervision and role modeling positive interactions and leadership.
• Carry out the mission, philosophy, policies and procedures of the District and Kidstop guidelines and expectations.
• Create, facilitate/lead a variety of enriching activities that promote social and emotional and overall well being of our youth.
• Gather input from youth and staff in developing activities, camps, clubs, service learning projects.
• Ensure all supplies are ordered, organized and available to other staff to help lead activities.

Professional Development

• Complete a background check prior to working in our program and any other additional paperwork prior to the summer starting.
• Attend staff meetings, in-service training/workshops, and program sponsored events.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 16 years of age
• Skills that include organization, flexibility, confidence, patience, understanding, teamwork and communication.
