SUMMARY

Painters perform skilled work in preparing metal surfaces on heavy equipment for painting and in applying primers, polyurethane, and epoxy with spray guns and must be comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment. Painters prep parts and machines for paint and apply paint to heavy equipment. He/She is responsible for mixing paints to match standard colors of products and to the proper consistency and viscosity for spraying. Painters perform finish-coat painting in accordance with special specifications on work where a high-quality finish is essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but not limited to)

• Ensure safe work practices are followed and adhered to
• Check production schedule or shop request list and plan work tasks
• Clean, sand/grind, and prepare equipment surfaces for painting
• Apply primer and finish coats with attention to safety, quality and efficiency
• Mix and match paint, clean and maintain spray guns and other painting equipment
• May work with unpleasant or toxic fumes and materials wearing protective and safety equipment
• Painter spends a substantial portion of the work time spray painting
• Wear a mask, fresh air breathing apparatus or other safety equipment as needed, when working with paint products emitting hazardous vapors
• May occasionally be assigned to other duties for training purposes
• Attend weekly department safety meeting

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Experience/Knowledge

• See minimum requirements for each level below
• Demonstrated proficiency with prep work; sanding, masking, spray painting with industrial enamel and multiple color paint scheme

Education

• No minimum requirement

• Ability to read and interpret a tape measure, engineering drawings, and bills of material (BOM’s)
• Maintain positive, cooperative working relationships by working, acting, and communicating with various personalities getting along with customers, vendors, co-workers and management working both individually and as part of a team
• Must express criticisms and concerns in a way that promotes teamwork and a positive work environment
• Skill in working efficiently and accurately to keep up with production requirements and stay productive with little supervision
• Safe material handling skills in working with steel in a fast paced environment
• Capacity to learn quickly, think independently and problem solve with or without guidance provided by supervisor
• Flexible and adaptable in coping with pressures, deadlines, and rapidly changing situations
• Mechanical skills with manual dexterity to perform routine welding activities or tool use
• Continue to grow lean knowledge and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
