CHRIS 180 services include counseling for the community at large; school-based mental health counseling; comprehensive wraparound services; homes for abused, neglected foster children with emotional and behavioral problems who are in state custody and for unaccompanied children in federal foster care; supportive housing for single and parenting young people, ages 17 – 24 who are homeless or aging out of foster care; in-home services and community programs that strengthen families; outreach, drop-in and community housing for older teens, young adults and families with children experiencing homelessness; services in community centers and partnerships with afterschool providers; an adoption program for children in foster care; teen and gun violence reduction programming; and, training for professionals, human service workers, educators, volunteers, individuals who work within the community, in hospitals, other organizations and with children, youth, adults, and families. The goal for all services is to unlock the potential that resides in each person to help them build resiliency and become self-sufficient, contributing adults who have the skills to navigate life’s challenges. Program Overview

CHRIS 180 JourneyZ Program provides 24-hour care for adolescents who need this level of care due to complex emotional and behavioral issues. The programs provide stabilization, behavioral support, education around daily living skills, recreational and therapeutic activities, educational linkage and support, case management, and coordination of care. JourneyZ provides a family-involved, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach to care within residential communities in the Atlanta area.

Role and Responsibilities

The primary duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide positive role modeling to residents.
    • Promote self-esteem.
    • Promote healthy boundaries.
    • Promote good hygiene and appropriate personal appearance among youth and young adults.
    • Reinforce socially acceptable behaviors (ex: manners, eating habits, safety)
    • Teach and reinforce thoughtful and healthy decision-making.
  • We are assessing residents’ history of trauma, strengths, and needs.
    • Administer Ansell Casey Life Skills Assessment (ACLSA)
    • Administer Child and Adolescent Function Assessment Scale (CAFAS)
    • Administer CANS (Child & Adolescent Needs & Strengths)
    • Aware of ACE score and implications on service planning
    • Assists in scoring the SFSS Assessment
    • Assist in the development and monitoring of Individualized Service Plans, Life Skills plans, and safety plans.
  • Coordinating Services and Collaboration
    • Make necessary referrals to meet consumers' health, well-being, education, mental health, and employment needs (i.e., Department of Public Health, Department of Family & Children Services, Georgia Department of Labor, employment staffing agencies, local colleges, and tech schools, etc.)
    • Facilitate and/or participate in Team Meetings for all consumers/members/residents/young adults.
    • Collaborate and communicate with other programs in the CHRIS 180 continuum to provide services to consumers.
    • Collaborate and consult with other providers and entities in the provision of the best care services to consumers.
    • Monitor the provision of services provided.
  • Specific services for residents
    • Maintains the schedule of activities for the home.
    • Responds to discipline problems at home and at school in accordance with each resident’s treatment plan.
    • Conducts weekly House meetings with the residents such as Check-Ins, Life Skills, Activity Prep groups, Welcomes New Resident groups and Monthly Volunteer/Enrichment activities.
    • Supervises and monitors telephone usage by the residents.
    • Develops attunement to residents’ moods and emotional affect.
    • Provides emotional support and assists in residents learning how to manage everyday situations and emotions.
    • Teaches problem-solving skills to the residents.
    • Teaches the residents tolerance and respect for themselves and for others.
    • Reinforces basic sense of right and wrong.
    • Assures decisions concerning consequences and earned privileges are consistent, natural, and trauma-informed as well as in accordance with each child’s service plan.
    • Teaches independent living skills to residents (cooking, money management, cleaning, etc.).
    • Uses appropriate de-escalation techniques with residents.
    • Breaks up fights among residents.
    • Physically restrains residents when necessary, using the least restrictive measures possible to prevent a resident from harming him/herself or others.
    • Monitors and shops for clothing and personal items for the children as needed.
    • Monitors medical and special occasion needs of the children.
    • Monitors the personal appearance of the residents.
    • Assures the residents have always dressed appropriately (no revealing or suggestive clothing, sagging, shirts at meals, etc.).
    • Assures the residents are always supervised.
    • Monitors the residents’ activities and teaches them to follow through on their responsibilities and commitments.
    • Assure appropriate staff coverage to ensure the safety of residents at CHRIS 180 activities/weekend activities.
    • Work within program policy and guidelines to provide program services.
  • Documentation Requirements
    • Monthly summaries on each youth in placement at home for more than 3 days
    • Weekly reports on MAAC-funded child.
    • Incident reports and incident report reviews
    • Responsible for ESI documentation reviews
    • Completes medication administration records and reviews MARs on a weekly basis.
    • Assures all resident records are always maintained in compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Ensures that vehicle inspection and repair records are completed and maintained.
    • Assures medical appointments are documented in Kaleida Care and GA Score
    • Assures that visits are documented in Kaleida Care and GA Score
  • Employee Supervision Requirements
    • Responsible for completing monthly staff scheduling and submitting schedules to the SSC in accordance with deadlines.
    • Monitor staff hours worked, timeliness PTO, worker’s compensation, medical absences, etc. Report to the on-call structure.
    • Provides coaching to reports regarding managing personal effects with youth, interventions in high-risk situations, avoiding power struggles, de-escalation techniques, youth triggers, and general performance issues.
    • Provide staff de-briefing for high-stress incidents and situations.
    • Monitor staff for burnout and assure PTO is taken as needed.
    • Ensures residential staff attends required training and monitors Annual in-service hours according to hire date.
    • Complete staff write-ups as needed for performance issues.
    • Complete 90-day and Annual Performance Reviews.
    • Review OJT Checklist for new hires of residential Advisors.
  • Financial Responsibilities
    • Responsible for completing weekly mileage logs and inspection and van maintenance logs.
    • Maintains a record of money spent on each child.
    • Maintains a journal of financial records to document all house monies spent.
    • Maintains and records all receipts.
    • Ensures all staff accounts for all house monies they/staff have received.
    • Manage the annual budget for the home.
    • Assure allowance is distributed within organization parameters.
  • Physical Plant responsibilities
    • Ensures appropriate meals and snacks are prepared for the residents three times each day (two times a day during the school week).
    • Maintains weekly menus.
    • Assure food is stored appropriately, and that out-of-date items are discarded.
    • Shops for groceries as needed (i.e., food bank, grocery store, etc.).
    • Weekly home inspections including documentation.
    • Ensures the house is clean, welcoming, and free from hazards always.
    • Assures the home and grounds always meet or exceed state regulations.
    • Assures all records are maintained in accordance with regulatory standards at all times.
    • Assures that the group home is equipped with all emergency evacuation equipment including but not limited to (weather radio, emergency kit, flashlights, and First Aid kits).
    • Ensure fire and emergency drills are conducted monthly.
    • Monitor home for maintenance issues and complete maintenance requests as needed.
  • Performance and Conduct
    • Maintain confidentiality of consumer information
    • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
    • Works on other duties, tasks, and projects as assigned.
    • Ensures agency compliance with National Council on Accreditation and other mandatory regulations/standards.
    • Lives and works by the CHRIS 180 Values and Code of Ethics
    • Follow the mandated reporting requirements of the GA Code
    • Support and maintain an environment of emotional and physical safety for consumers, staff, and other stakeholders always.
  • Demonstrate customer service.
    • Always promote a positive image of CHRIS 180 programs.
    • Work as a contributing and collaborative team member
    • Respond to consumer and peer needs in a timely fashion.
    • Answer telephone calls and emails accordingly
    • Respond to requests for information from stakeholders in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain Personal Information and Training.
    • Attend and participate in staff meetings as scheduled.
    • Attend and participate in required training as scheduled.
    • Maintain required certifications.
    • Review, understand, and respond to program policies.
    • Provide documents in a timely fashion to Human Resources
    • Report changes in status to HR as required by policy.

Qualifications/Competencies

  • The JourneyZ House Supervisor shall be at least 25 years of
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree preferably in social work, psychology, or education counseling, supervisory experience, and one year of related experience.
  • The JourneyZ House Supervisor must be flexible to work additional shifts including weekends when necessary, able to handle high stress, be well organized, have PC-related skills, and approaches, and complete work with a high degree of detail and follow through; a direct and factual communication style; must be able to juggle a variety of tasks and responsibilities during the day; ability to relate well to a wide variety of individuals, and be able to work as part of a team with other CHRIS Staff.
