General Summary

Highline College is recruiting for part-time faculty positions in the Hospitality & Tourism Management Department. The Department will continue to accept applications until the position has been filled.

Salary is based on initial placement, work experience, and a number of assigned credits. The current salary range per credit hour is $1,043.70 to $1,117.75. Essential Tasks
In fulfilling facility responsibilities as part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, this position will:

  • Provide support for the Hospitality & Tourism Management program through office hours, teaching in class, answering emails efficiently, attending departmental and professional development workshops, curriculum design specific to your teaching assignment, and working as an effective, productive, and team-oriented hospitality individual;
  • Develop and maintain industry and community engagement between the program and industry stakeholders;
  • Provide information and guidance to students and the HOST program manager regarding specific on-goings within industry and on-campus opportunities, specific to your teaching assignment;
  • Be an active participant in the community in your field of expertise;
  • Teach courses assigned, whereby your industry experience are relevant, useful, and applied to in-class learnings.

Teaching

  • Teach 4-10 credits each quarter specific to your area of expertise. Currently we are seeking individuals with an expertise in the following areas of hospitality and tourism:
  • Casino and gaming;
  • Travel Agency;
  • Tour Guide;
  • The Coffee Industry (specifically the supply chain and roasting).

Service

  • Maintain an active engagement in college initiatives; participate in shared governance; promote the college's values, and be a part of other duties at times (i.e. advising, community outreach).

Professional Development

  • Pursue appropriate professional development activities to stay current in assigned teaching field and technical fields. Maintain comprehensive, current knowledge of the local, national, and global hospitality/tourism industry, especially in the Puget Sound, south Seattle, and Tacoma regions.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in area of emphasis and five or more years of work experience; OR
  • Master's degree in area of emphasis with some teaching experience; AND
  • Hospitality leadership experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in area of specialization;
  • Curriculum development experience;
  • Industry recognized credentials/certifications;
  • Background in the hospitality and tourism industries (e.g. working in multiple fields);
  • Industry experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
