TITLE: GROUNDS TECHNICIAN

DEPARTMENT: Facilities


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card within forty-five (45) days of employment.
  • Possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • One year of grounds maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

JOB GOALS:

The Grounds Technician performs grounds maintenance functions within the school district as directed by the Head Grounds Technician and/or the Director of Facilities.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following tasks are essential for this position. This list is not inclusive of all responsibilities. Individuals may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed.

  • Complies with all HIPAA and FERPA related confidentiality requirements.
  • Develops positive relations with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Maintains athletic fields making them as safe as possible for athletic functions and school activities.
  • Sets up and lines fields as needed.
  • Develops a yearly schedule of athletic field maintenance.
  • Maintains concessions stands, bleachers, and any associated buildings with the athletic fields.
  • Safely operates large field mowers, heavy equipment and other related power equipment.
  • Complies with all current Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA) standards and requirements.
  • Waters and maintains shrubs, and flower beds.
  • Cuts weeds around buildings and sidewalks.
  • Picks up paper and garbage on school grounds.
  • Mows all grass on campus.
  • Repairs sprinkler systems.
  • Reports major damage and repairs to supervisor.
  • Documents all materials used.
  • Performs snow removal at supervisor’s discretion.
  • Responsible for implementation of preventive maintenance plans as directed by the supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

Knowledge of:

  • District policies, operations and organization.
  • Interpersonal skills including tact, courtesy, and diplomacy.
  • Communication (telephone, email, etc.) etiquette.
  • Current Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA) safety standards and requirements as they relate to District equipment and procedures.
  • Athletic fields maintenance.
  • Grounds maintenance.

Skill and Ability to:

  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Establish work priorities to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Safely use grounds maintenance material and equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Requires vision (which may be corrected) to read small print.
  • Requires the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend. Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
  • Requires the ability to stand for long periods.
  • Requires the ability to walk long distances.
  • Perform work which involves the frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects which may approximate 75 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 100 pounds.
  • May be required to work in inclement weather without effective protection from sun, cold and rain.
  • May be required to work with harsh and toxic substances.
  • May be required to wear protective apparel including goggles, face protectors, aprons, shoes and oxygen breathing apparatus.
  • May be required to work around foul odors, loud noise, moving mechanical parts, electrical current.

REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities


EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Facilities in accordance with the provisions of Governing Board policy for evaluation of classified personnel.


TERMS OF

EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months


SALARY:
Salary for the position is set according to the Classified Salary Schedule determined by the Governing Board.
