Global Business Development Manager, Lithium and Industrial Minerals

Reporting to the General Manager, Crop Nutrition & Fertilizer Mining, the Global Business Development Manager works closely with Sales/Tech Service/ R&D/Operations/Purchasing Organizations. This role is highly visible demanding a high level of accountability for the sustainability and growth of the Industrial Minerals business.

JOB DIMENSIONS
  • Management and oversight of the Global New Business Development Lithium Mining Project.
  • Defines and implements business strategies for profitable growth Lithium Mining Project as well as new business development for the current Industrial Minerals Business.
  • Responsible for profitable growth of the Industrial Minerals Business.
ACTIVITIES
Global Lithium Business Development
  • Provides strategic direction and leads the new business development initiative for the Global Lithium Development Project – (involving, but not limited to, Western Australia, Canada, Brazil, China, and Western Europe)
  • Responsible for comprehensive and detailed market and competitive analysis, including key trends and market outlooks
  • Responsible for developing robust business models, where appropriate, to effectively serve the global market, including long range planning and Investment
  • Responsible for setting price and negotiating customer agreements, as well as negotiating with potential external partners
  • Identification and quantification of value proposition along with market & customer needs.
  • Management and prioritization of the global project portfolio for the Lithium development projects
  • Maximizing the efficiency of our technical support and product offering for the global Lithium Business
  • Responsible for 3-month forecasting, annual budgeting and 3 – 5 year planning for the Global Lithium Business as well as the Industrial Minerals business
  • Leveraging Arkema’s position in Lithium-ion battery development for the Lithium Mining Project where appropriate
  • Defines and implements business strategies for new opportunities, driving profitable growth of the Industrial Minerals business, including long range planning, investment, and strategic partnerships
  • Management of the Industrial Minerals Project Portfolio. Responsible for prioritization and alignment with supporting functions (R&D, Operations, Supply Chain)
  • Supplies the organization with relevant, reliable and actionable information related to industry trends, demographics, competitors, prospects and customers. Utilizes feedback, including surveys, to mine data that leads to informed decisions.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other Arkema BU’s that sell into the Industrial Minerals Market.
  • Work closely with the Marketing Communications team to develop and implement annual marketing communication strategy plans for both the Lithium and Industrial Minerals Business. The plan should include, but not limited to, trade shows & industry events, press releases, white paper & editorials, product launches and the development of media (print & social) for product & brand promotion.
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT
  • The position leads activities at multiple levels in the organization, across businesses and support units, at the local and global level.
  • Ability to present business reviews and market plans to executive management
  • Must be able to effectively lead and manage development projects and project teams, globally, including internal and external (other BUs, distributors…) participants.
  • Requires ~35% travel both domestic & international.
  • Is cognizant of patent situations and policies related to legal conformance in business related activities.
  • Takes into consideration potential liability issues associated with our claims of performance in end use applications.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Sales volume, revenue and margin for business development activities
  • Global trademark, branding, licensing and marketing leadership
  • Management of the both Lithium and Industrial Mining Project Portfolio
  • Detailed and comprehensive Market/Competitive Intelligence for both the Lithium and Industrial Minerals business
  • Strategy and Market Plans for core business and new product / business development projects
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • BS in Engineering, Chemistry, or Materials Science, or direct work in a related field of Mining/Fertilizer production & processing for a minimum of 7 years.
  • Minimum of 5 years, New business/Product Development and Portfolio Management.
  • MBA desirable
  • Experience within the Mining/Fertilizer production and processing industry is a plus.
  • High level of written and oral (including presentation) competency. Ability to effectively represent Arkema in front of end market, including customer or end user targeted events.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, communication and negotiating skills.
  • Excellent project management and organization skills
  • Strong customer focus. Able to establish and strengthen Executive level relationships within key global accounts.
  • Proven financial acumen and understanding of product line, platform and/or project valuation calculations.
  • Able to present themselves and respective business in front of Arkema Management Committee
  • Able to take opposing and/or strong positions when necessary both within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to concurrently support and/or manage multiple and complex projects in a fast paced and competitive environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a multi-disciplinary team (transversal management).
  • Acknowledged leadership skills with the ability to successfully interact with and influence other functions – Regional Sales and operations, R&D, Technical Service, Supply Chain, HES.
  • Experience and knowledge of the use and application of value chain analysis, product and technology road mapping, market segmentation, value analysis, competitive analysis and other current Best Practice marketing concepts.
  • Detail oriented, with excellent prioritization and follow-up.
  • Efficient with computer and communication tools (ERPs, CRMs, standard software (Excel, Power point,etc))
  • Cultural awareness and willingness to travel globally.
