JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

The General Manager is responsible for leading one of the Company’s Districts which includes full profit loss responsibility for all aspects of the operation. The position manages a team potentially comprised of one or more of the following district/division-level managers/supervisors’ positions, including Operations, Fleet Management, Sales, and Safety, who support the total operation of the district/division. The General Manager executes a market strategy that complements the company’s overall strategic operating and marketing plans and implements tactical initiatives to drive functional excellence and budget achievement. The General Manager manages all matters related to collection and/or post-collections operations (transfer stations, recycling centers (MRFs); represents the Company to customers, vendors and municipal customers and other external stakeholders; oversees effective safety and accident prevention programs and leads all operations to ensure compliance with standards; and drives change management initiatives to introduce and sustain new processes that contribute to the growth and durability of the district.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements and executes the company’s strategic operating plan; champions the execution of the strategic plan and tactical initiatives within the district/division, including but not limited to operating safely, enhancing customer experience, improving efficiency, and maximizing profitability.
  • Works with district/divisions sales team to drive the residential, roll-off, commercial and municipal sales efforts to achieve targeted growth objectives, exceeds customer expectations and optimizes profitability.
  • Champions Safety: oversees effective safety and accident prevention programs to ensure all reasonable action are taken to prevent accidents and injuries; ensures a safe and productive work environment for all employees.


  • Oversees company preventative/proactive, truck/equipment maintenance program, ensures standards, policies and compliance are met to maintain a reliable fleet daily
  • Leads operations to ensure compliance with all standards including environmental, operating, regulatory, safety, accounting, and ethics.
  • Manages performance and talent development. Champion of employee engagement at all levels within location
  • Builds and maintains strong and effective relations with relevant government, community, and environmental groups.
  • This position may require travel at times.
  • This is not a 9:00am to 5:00pm position and may require early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays, all dependent on site specific needs at any given date and time
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

  • Preferred - Bachelor’s degree in Business.
  • Preferred - Previous experience in the waste/environmental services industry.
  • Proven experience or similar role, preferably 3-5 years


QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership and management responsibility.
  • Minimum of 3 years of P & L experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The work environment for this position is in a typical indoor climate-controlled office setting but, also requires outdoor activity as well which includes all weather-related situations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high stress environment with stringent monthly deadlines, quotas, and goals

Pay Rate: 150,000-165,000 based on experience.
