Position Title: Field Technician

Location: Based out of Campbellsburg, Indiana. Field work to be performed throughout Southern Indiana.

Salary: $10 to $13.50 an hour, includes travel time.

Education Requirements: This position is available to high-school students to apply. For those 18 years and older; a high-school diploma is required.

Experience Requirements: None. Training in the field will be required and unpaid. Training must be fulfilled to ALM’s satisfaction before the candidate’s first day of compensated work. ALM reserves the right to revoke job offer/internship if candidate does not meet post-training expectations. Candidates will be expected to confidently identify approximately a dozen invasive plant species post-training. Training will also involve a physical fitness test (details below). Training may be fulfilled on weekends by high-school students.

Physical Requirements: Position is physically demanding. Candidate must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and be able to walk long distances (3+ miles a day) over steep terrain. A physical fitness test will be required and must be successfully completed before the candidate’s first day of compensated work. The fitness test will involve completing a 3-mile course, across rugged terrain, while carrying a 45-pound backpack, which must be completed in 45 minutes or less, without running.

Room and Board: Shared housing may be provided. Hotel room and additional stipend for food (per diem) provided when overnight stays are required outside of the Campbellsburg area.

Weekly Schedule: Variable. Hours usually range between 35 and 50 a week. Days of inclement weather may be given off (unpaid). Weekends may be optional workdays to make up for rain days.

Start Date/End Date: Exact start and end dates are negotiable. Must commit to at least 8 weeks of employment between April 1, 2023 and October 1, 2023.

Job Duties: Primary duties will include spraying invasive plants with backpack sprayers and/or UTV sprayers. Use of mechanical equipment to remove invasive plants may be required. There may be opportunities to assist with marking timber and/or conducting timber stand inventories. There will be opportunities to learn how to identify native trees and shrubs throughout the summer season.

Other Requirements/Information:

• Travel/overnight hotel stays may be required for those 18 years and older. Overnight stays will be optional to high-school students under 18 years of age, with signed parental consent.
• ALM has a no tolerance, drug-free and tobacco-free policy. Applicants may be required to pass a drug test.
• Because we are state/federal contractors and may perform work on government-owned land, applicants may be subject to thorough background checks. Candidates must not have any felonies or misdemeanours on their records to be able to perform work on federally-owned properties.
