GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking an Accounting Technician for the Motor Vehicle Services (MVS) program in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Accounting Technician will be responsible for reviewing, accepting, rejecting, collecting, auditing, and distributing various state fees pertaining to MVS. This position will also license customers, issue specialty license plates, issue state-assigned VINs, and perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.


  • Applies established accounting procedures and regulations in maintaining financial records or other fiscal documents.
  • Enters all agency financial data into the accounting system.
  • Collects compiles and deposits financial data onto the Enterprise Resource Program (ERP).
  • Maintains the integrity of the data that is uploaded into the state mainframe and other databases.
  • Develops and maintains spreadsheets.
  • Maintains cash funds per established policies and procedures.
  • Produces correspondence.
  • Interprets, translates, and advises on the Wyoming Statutes Title 31 and WYDOT Rules and Regulations.
  • Communicates regularly with County Clerks/Treasurers via phone and email correspondence.
  • Ensures compliance with Wyoming State Statutes and WYDOT Rules and Regulations.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


**Agency requires the successful candidate to become a notary public within six (6) months of employment.

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of MS applications, including Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted fiscal and accounting procedures, auditing principles, and concepts.
  • Knowledge of Wyoming Statutes Title 31 and WYDOT Rules and Regulations
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Skill in decision-making.
  • Skill in analytical thinking.
  • Ability to use considerable judgment.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Finance)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accounting Clerk
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accounting Clerk
