Painted Sky Center for the Arts (PSCA) seeks a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as Executive Director to advance the mission and agenda of the organization. PSCA provides innovative programs and services to artists, arts organizations, educators, youth and the general public. PSCA’s mission is to advance arts education and entertainment, enhancing the quality of life, and promoting cultural development in Grant County. PSCA provides arts education and performances for youth and adults, in addition to offering classes in music, theater, writing, painting, drawing, leatherworking, and after school programming.

The Executive Director serves as the chief operating officer of PSCA, working closely with and reporting to the President and the Board of Directors. The Executive Director directs and administers all programs, operations, and policies, in addition to supervising staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

Leadership

● Participate with the Board of Directors in the ongoing vision and strategic plan to guide the PSCA
● Identify, assess, and inform the Board of internal and external issues that affect the PSCA
● Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the PSCA’s activities
● Foster effective teamwork among the Board, the Executive Team, the Executive Director and staff
● Act as the primary spokesperson for PSCA
● Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board as appropriate and jointly with the Board when appropriate
● Represent the PSCA at community activities to enhance the organization’s community profile

Operational Planning and Management

● Develop an operational plan to implement the Board’s vision and strategic plan
● Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of PSCA
● Draft policies for the approval of the Board and prepare procedures to implement organizational policies; review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the Board as appropriate

●Ensure personnel, financial, client, donor and volunteer files are securely stored and privacy/confidentiality is maintained, as appropriate.

● Building and tenant management.

Program Planning and Management

● Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of PSCA programs and services
● Ensure the programs and services offered by PSCA contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect the priorities and approved budget of the Board
● Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of PSCA to maintain or improve quality

Human Resources Planning and Management

● Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery
● Facilitate the development and maintenance of human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job description for all staff
● Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures, and practices
● Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations
● Recruit, interview and select staff that have the technical and personal abilities to help further PSCA’s mission
● Ensure that all staff receives an orientation to PSCA and that appropriate training is provided
● Supervise staff using a performance management process which includes monitoring performance on an on-going basis and conduction an annual performance review
● Discipline staff when necessary, using legally defensible procedures
● Make promotion, reassignment and/or release recommendations to the Executive Team

Financial Planning and Management

● Work with staff, the Executive Team and the Board to prepare an annual comprehensive budget
● Work with the Board to secure adequate funding for the operation of PSCA
● Research funding sources, oversee the development of fund-raising plans and grant writing to increase the funds Coordinate and participate in fundraising activities as appropriate
● Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board
● Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed
● Administer the funds of PSCA according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the PSCA
● Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditure of the PSCA
● Ensure that PSCA complies with all mandated state and federal reports and filings

Communications

● Communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of PSCA
● Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, the media, funders, and other agencies
● Work with the Board, staff, volunteers, and auxiliary groups to develop and expand the PSCA’s visibility and brand recognition through public and media relations, print and web-based programs and other marketing activities ● Oversee publicity for the programs and activities of PSCA
● Serve as the primary spokesperson for PSCA

Risk management

● Identify and evaluate the risks to PSCA’s members, staff and general public; to its property, finances, goodwill and image, and to implement appropriate measures to control risks

● Ensure that the Board of Directors and PSCAter carries appropriate and adequate insurance coverage

● Ensure that the Board and staff understand the terms, conditions and limitations of the insurance coverage

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience

● Any combination of training, experience and education which provides required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the position

● Previous experience with non-profit organizations and/or business management is preferred
● A background or interest in the arts is preferred but not required

Proficiency in Technology

● Excellent computer, web and software skills on PC platforms (i.e. Google Drive, Slack, Canva, Microsoft
Excel, Facebook, etc.)

Personal characteristics

● Should possess the personal characteristics generally recognized as essential for public employees, including integrity, initiative, emotional maturity, dependability, courtesy, good judgment, and the ability to work cooperatively with others

Working Conditions

● The Executive Director will work in an office at PSCA. Some travel will be required throughout the year

● Background check required

Hours/Salary

● The Executive Director will work a flexible 40-hour work week and will often work evening and weekend hours

● The annual salary is $65,000 with benefit package

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $65,000.00 per year
