Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an environmental scientist for employment in the Germantown, MD office to be a task leader for a variety of environmental projects (i.e., Remedial Investigations and Site Assessments) for primarily Federal sector clients. In this important position, the successful candidate will support Project Managers as part of a multi-disciplinary project team.

Under the supervision of a Project Manager or senior-level team member, the successful candidate will:

+ Task manage portions of a larger project.

+ Assist in managing and coordinating complex field tasks involving asbestos air monitoring, groundwater monitoring, drilling, and remedial construction activities.

+ Assist with technical report writing tasks with the support of more junior staff.

+ Assist with proposal writing and cost estimating.

+ Develop subcontractor relationships and manage the implementation of their services.

+ Assist with preparing permits and access agreements with public agencies and other stakeholders.

+ Interact with clients.

+ Assist with preparing remedial systems design and overseeing implementation/construction of remedial actions.

+ Qualified candidates must be comfortable with travel. Field work is required including oversight of subcontractors. The anticipated division of job-related tasks is about a 50/50 percent split between office and fieldwork.

This is a Project Manager-track position; therefore, the ideal candidate must be able to work independently and productively in a collaborative team environment, foster team building through inclusion and mentorship, display a high level of organization and communication, and demonstrate a strong desire to learn from Project Managers. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety is imperative. For the right candidate, this position holds significant growth potential.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

+ Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field and 4+ years of post-graduation relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in environmental consulting (i.e., Remedial Investigations and Site Assessments) for Federal, State, or private clients.

+ Must have a valid US driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Remedial/Site investigation, remediation planning, asbestos or construction experience.

+ Ability to travel for short-term regional project assignments/fieldwork/meetings.

+ Excellent skills in written and spoken communication (including polished client presentation skills), organization, time management, and an individual who thrives in a team-oriented environment.

+ Master’s Degree in Environmental Science

+ With a Master’s Degree, 3+ years of experience in related field, preferably environmental consulting for Federal, State, or private clients.

+ Experience with CERCLA RI/FS, RCRA, and RD/RA projects with commercial or DoD clients.

+ Experience performing environmental investigations at DoD facilities.

+ Technical Skills – Life cycle cost estimating, feasibility studies, basic fate and transport modeling, and excellent technical writing skills.

+ Certificates – OSHA 40hr HAZWOPER Training and current refresher certificates, EPA Asbestos Inspector, NIOSH 582 Equivalent Course, AHERA Supervisor or Project Designer Course, Maryland Project Designer and Asbestos Inspector License.

+ Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and preparing technical reports.
