The Pacific Northwest Environmental Planning Team is currently seeking an Environmental Planner to support environmental permitting and review, including state and federal environmental permit applications, technical studies, and SEPA and NEPA compliance. You will join an existing group of natural resource and planning professionals that includes wildlife biologists, aquatic resource biologists (waters, wetlands, and riparian areas), environmental and conservation planners, restoration ecologists, and regulatory specialists. Current project workload is focused on Washington and Oregon, but could also include support for California, Idaho, Alaska, or other regional projects. The position is based in the Pacific Northwest, with office locations in Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR, and the option to work remotely.
What You Will Do
  • Support wetland delineations, OHWM determinations, and wetland functional assessments per the Washington State Department of Ecology Wetland Rating System and Oregon Department of State Lands (DSL) Oregon Rapid Wetland Assessment Protocol.
  • Prepare environmental assessment reports and mitigation plans including DSL Wetland reports, Critical Area reports, SEPA Checklists, and No Effects Memos or Biological Evaluations under Section 7 consultation.
  • Draft federal and state permit applications including Section 404/401 permitting, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Hydraulic Project Approvals or Fish Enhancement Exemption forms, and DSL Dredge/Fill permits.
  • Conduct wetland and vegetation resource impact analyses under NEPA and SEPA and prepare environmental assessments and EIS documentation.
Required Education and Experience
  • BS or higher degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Biology, Ecology, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in environmental consulting or related field with a focus on wetland science and management, NEPA, SEPA, and environmental compliance; education equivalents, including advanced degrees will be considered.
Preferred Attributes and Experience
  • Knowledge of in-water and near-shore, federal, state and local permitting, including SEPA and NEPA documentation, Clean Water Act Section 404/401 Shoreline Master Program, Comprehensive land use permit applications, and Endangered Species Act
  • Ability to safely and effectively conduct field work as part of a field team.
  • Strong organizational, communication, technical writing, and analytical skills.
  • Certification as Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) a plus
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel)
  • Familiarity with GPS mapping technology
