Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Reports to: Chief Student Engagement Officer

Status: Full-Time, Benefit Eligible

Location: Mesa Campus

Position Summary: The primary responsibility of this position is to lead the Student Affairs & Athletics Departments within the Division of Student Life. This consists of the Multicultural Student Services, Health and Counseling, Sports Medicine, Orientation, Athletic Communications, Student Leadership, Residence Life, and Campus Ministry offices. Tasks include working with individual students, student groups, families, and faculty members to provide necessary support, information, advice, counsel, and assistance in solving problems.



Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. Provide visionary leadership, strategic planning and policy development for Student Affairs & Athletics Department. Maintain a Student Affairs program that is committed to the university’s mission and strategic priorities while instituting nationwide effective practices to provide a best-in-class student experience. Develop strategies for promoting student engagement and learning in collaboration with other departments within Student Life.

2. Develop key collaborative relationships with various campus administrative areas, faculty and campus and community leaders to enhance planning and implementing strategic initiatives, resolving issues, and responding to crisis incidents. Collaborate with university offices on the recruitment and retention of student athletes ensuring to satisfy roster size, recruitment and retention outcomes for all sports offered through the Athletic Department. Provide both direct fund-raising and development support activities within athletics.

3. Communicate effectively with staff, students and other stakeholders. Provide leadership guidance in analysis, review, creation and interpretation of student policies and procedures. Coordinate Student Affairs response to major crisis and other unusual events impacting students within the University Community. Including supervision for athletic compliance, communications, contracted staff and other services directly related to the administration of the athletic department.

4. Provide direction and intervention for students in crisis and non-crisis including intervening with mental health staff, providing victim advocacy, and working with staff and students affected by crisis.

5. Foster an inclusive University community and promote equity for all students. Oversee outreach to diverse student populations to support institutional diversity. Serve as Deputy Title IX officer for the University.


Other Functions:
1. Adherence to all Benedictine University and Division of Student Life policies and procedures. Work independently and creatively within established guidelines, while at the same time functioning as a member of a team.
2. Attend departmental and University related meetings and events.
3. Strong leadership, administrative, planning and presentation skills, including oral and written communications
4. Work in coordination with University offices and departments to coordinate and facilitate program needs, serve on University committees as needed.
5. Maintain high level of organization and ability to manage multiple tasks.
6. Ability to attain goals through knowledge of regulation and accreditation requirements, as well as incorporate best practices into initiatives.
7. Ability to create a culture of collaboration with all campus constituents.
8. Experience working in the areas of inclusion, diversity, equity and/or access
9. Employs sound project management practices, methodologies, and principles to accomplish work.
10. Proven ability to organize information; assess, utilize and navigate online platforms; and conduct detailed data analysis and develop reports based on data
11. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations and matters with diplomacy and superior judgement.
12. Ability to complete high-level analysis of data.
13. Demonstrated analytical, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Use of computer screen, phone and customer service.
May require bending, or sitting for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Training: As a University employee you are required to complete all University-specific and/or OSHA related training to fulfill your job duties. Specific training will be conducted online or in person. Employees must complete all trainings required by Benedictine University.
