The Product Director role is important to the UHC Employer and Individual product team. Successful candidates must develop and demonstrate excellence in strategic and critical thinking, product design and development, consumer experience design, issue resolution, and matrix leadership. The role will afford the opportunity to learn and engage with nearly all functions of the Employer and Individual organization and tangibly impact members’ abilities to make healthy choices including genetic testing.

Positions in this job family perform research, development, and presentation of new or existing products. They review product performance against expectations and facilitate or influence changes to the product portfolio to improve competitive position and optimal product performance. They may work with internal or external business constituents to determine future direction and involve working within multiple product functions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the product lifecycle through supporting strategic product planning and execution including repositioning and sunset
  • Develop in-year and multi-year product plans addressing key market needs, client and consumer requirements, as well as elements required for successful launch and management
  • Develop new programs and services from product concept through implementation leveraging existing organizational processes
  • Support the ongoing management of products and services in the Personalized Benefits portfolio ensuring performance standards, KPIs, and critical business outcomes are met
  • Measure financial and growth goals towards defined organizational objectives
  • Complete product research and presentation of new or existing products to support the sale of products and/or services
  • Facilitate or influence changes to product portfolio to improve competitive position and optimize product performance
  • Monitor and understand consumer and customer needs and translate them into product requirements
  • Work with cross-functional partners including, but not limited to: Marketing, Actuary, Underwriting, Healthcare Economics, Operations, Finance, Market Research, Sales and Account Management, Clinical Services, and Customer Service
  • Conduct preliminary research on market opportunities through regular review of healthcare trends, competitive intelligence, trade organization reports, customer inquiries, and consumer feedback
  • Build clear lines of communication to and with business and product stakeholders to obtain, proof, validate, and approve ideas for innovation
  • Lead interdepartmental teams where appropriate in the development and execution of innovation ideas
  • Proactively collaborate across the enterprise to identify, deliver and support the best solution
  • Exemplify the UnitedHealth Group culture in words and actions
  • Execute work with operational discipline following project management best practices and holding business partners to the same standards
  • Support where appropriate the capital planning process for the Product organization which includes facilitating capital requests, prioritization, and ensuring that all requests are complete and appropriate prior to submission to capital funding group
  • Own end-to-end product support and oversight including sales, marketing, and distribution

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 4+ years of equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of healthcare experience
  • 5+ years of experience should encompass program development, general management, marketing and/or product management, along with high-level interface with external business vendors and partners
  • 5+ years of product experience that includes assessing problems and implementing solutions based on sound marketing, operational and financial principles
  • 5+ years of experience managing and influencing effectively in a large, matrixed environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-graduate degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Marketing or related field
  • Proven strategic focus, analytical, and product development and management skills
  • Demonstrates good negotiation, problem solving, planning, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrates solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Proven excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with cross-functional teams and consensus builder
  • Proven ability to effectively deal with levels of ambiguity - can effectively cope with change, can shift gears comfortably, can decide and act without having the total picture, and comfortably handle risk and uncertainty
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment in a positive and supportive manner
  • Proven ability to manage projects simultaneously and achieve goals; uses resources effectively and efficiently
  • Proven solid initiative and self-motivation

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $118,000 to $226,800. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
