Position Summary: As the director of the market, customer and competitive intelligence team, he/she will be responsible for providing critical market, customer and competitive intelligence and insight that will help inform ST and LT strategic decisions. This includes leading the development of a customer planning approach that leverages the collective outputs from the CI team. The individual must have very strong communication and analytical skills and ability to work with and influence operating teams across the organization to implement initiatives. He/she must also be able to collaborate with other members of the Strategy, Insights and Analytics team to build processes/tools that will drive the insights to support the Customer 1st mindset at all levels.

Primary Responsibilities:

Market Intelligence:
  • Drive implementation of new market sizing and segmentation approach
  • Build and support robust analysis, reporting, training, and communication programs around each data set the team owns.
  • Build and support market sizing for international business
  • Provide strategic recommendation on Sysco's opportunity for growth within each market segment
  • Own and negotiate third party data relationships with Technomic, NPD, Yelp, etc.

Customer Intelligence:
  • Leverage internal and external customer data to determine, and then monitor progress of , which customers Sysco should win with over the next 3-5 years.
  • Product owner of OGR (operator database): Responsible for playbook, roadmap, vision, and adoption of customer data work, with a current focus on cuisine and industry.

Competitive Intelligence:
  • Drive work to create an integrated competitive intelligence tool, training, and process
  • Create continuous feedback\listening tool to scale\share MA knowledge (working with research director)
  • Create outside in profit analysis of the competition regardless of ownership
  • Create sustainable insight regarding competitive financial performance
  • Regular reporting and analysis against publicly traded competition
  • Outside in models to understand where\how competition makes money
  • Develop deep and ongoing understanding of competitor's value proposition to inform future Sysco offers

Education:
  • BS/MS degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, Market research or related field

Experience:
  • 7+ years in business strategy, intelligence, marketing, corporate analytics, market research or similar job function

Technical Skills & Abilities:
  • Experience in developing and implementing internal business processes, particularly market intelligence and customer intelligence
  • Excellent communications skills, including persuasive writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent analytic and problem solving skills
  • Strong experience in leveraging 3rd party data sets a plus
  • Ability to understand and analyze competitive and customer P&Ls
  • Experience working in the context of a large, complex organization where working across boundaries
  • and leading through influence are critical to success
  • Demonstrated success in leveraging personal foresight and judgment to tap into and leverage "unconventional" intelligence sources across the industry
  • Leading a team of high-performing, results-oriented professionals
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Analytical ability to work at an abstract level and gain consensus
  • Leader/doer with ability to operate effectively and influence others in a matrix organization
  • Self starter with strong ability to lead and develop a new team
  • Experience in a start up-like environment and ability to foresee the needs of the organization, plan accordingly and direct the team to achieve quick wins and long term success
  • Professional attitude, service orientation, strong work ethic; superb team player
  • Excels in nebulous environments where the path to address a problem is not always clear or direct
  • Approaches every problem with an outside in perspective first and does not allow the status quo to influence your analysis
