The Director of Data Analytics is responsible for helping to create a world class, cohesive, business-focused team of data scientists, statisticians, analysts, and specialists (Data Analytics Team). The Director will report to and work with the Chief Data Officer (CDO) to create the Data Analytics Team’s strategy in alignment with firm business goals. This position is responsible for the management of the data analytics business unit of the firm.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with the CDO to develop and manage a cohesive and collaborative Data Analytics Team comprised of Data Scientists, Statisticians, Data Analysts, and Data Specialists across multiple firm locations
  • Work with the Chief Data Officer to create the Data Analytics Team’s strategy in alignment with firm business goals
  • Collaborate with relevant Practice, Industry, and Resource Group Leaders to guide the team’s strategy and evangelize the group’s technical capabilities inside and outside the firm
  • In collaboration with Practice, Industry, and Resource Group Leaders, seek opportunities to enhance the service offering of the Data Analytics Team to grow revenue and profitability
  • Recognizing several different channels of data services in the firm, develop best practices in approaching and delivering data projects and products to internal and external clients including helping create and implement quality control and assurance processes across the data analytics practice.
  • Serve as a technical lead point of contact with internal clients on firm-sponsored analytics projects and efforts
  • With the support of attorney subject-matter experts, oversee client-facing analytics projects and solutions deployments
  • Work with attorneys to translate legal and business needs into analytics solution offerings
  • Review and redesign organizational structure of Data Analytics Team to better support client needs
  • In collaboration with HR, develop distinct job descriptions for each role on the team, delineating responsibilities by level
  • Continuously improve data analysis models, workflows and business processes
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure the security of firm and client data
  • Collaborate with IT to review and assess current technologies utilized by the Data Analytics Team and make recommendations to implement expanded technology solutions
  • In coordination with attorney subject-matter experts, recruit, train, develop, and performance manage personnel in the Data Analytics Team

Education/Qualifications/Skills Required

  • 10+ years of experience in data analytics or data science roles including 5 years of experience leading a high performing, collaborative data analytics team
  • Master’s degree in business analytics, data science or other quantitative field required
  • MBA and/or an advanced degree in statistics is preferred
  • Highly proficient and experienced in scripting languages including, for example, SQL, Python, R, visualization, and analysis tools
  • Experience leading a large team across multiple locations
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional communication skills including the ability to communicate with lawyers, across all levels of the organization, and with a diverse range of clients
  • Highly organized and with project management experience

For Westchester County, the expected salary range for this position is between $160,000 and $200,000. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Pay: $149,629.25 - $219,246.61 per year
