DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

The CHA Foundation is the fundraising arm of Cambridge Health Alliance.

Summary:
Reporting to the Cambridge Health Alliance Foundation President/CHA Chief Development Officer, the Director of Development will assume a leadership role in expanding private philanthropic support for the Cambridge Health Alliance Foundation.
The Director of Development must demonstrate strong fundraising and leadership skills. They will drive day-to-day operations of the department with a particular focus on managing development activities building and managing the budget and financial reporting, fund management and overseeing Institutional Giving and Prospect
Management. They will direct major fundraising events and solicit/steward major donors pre and post events in collaboration with the Development team and CDO. They will serve as an advocate for Cambridge Health Alliance mission in the community

Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic advice and direction to the CDO to increase private philanthropic support for the Cambridge Health Alliance.
  • Develop an annual plan for expanding private philanthropic support for Cambridge Health Alliance
  • Manage Foundation’s budget and interface with the Finance department for reporting
  • Develop systems to identify new major donors through research, special events and the annual fund.
  • Develop a solicitation strategy and solicit major donors for support
  • Develop a stewardship program to keep major donor prospects engaged with the Alliance.
  • Establish financial goals for Development activities including events, annual fund, institutional giving and major giving
  • Recruit and steward foundation board members in pursuit of fulfilling fundraising objectives.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of major donor prospects
  • Identify, track, and steward major donor prospects toward meeting fundraising goals.
  • Manage internal and external fundraising committees, and volunteer groups.
  • Expand employee giving program
  • Create and maintain procedures and policies in accordance with the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy Standards and in alignment and collaboration with CHA legal, risk management, finance and compliance
departments


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must embrace mission of Cambridge Health Alliance
  • Bachelor’s degree; equivalent, relevant experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • 5+ years of increasing fund-raising success
  • Have financial budget acumen and ability to to develop financial and development reports
  • Extraordinary interpersonal, writing, and speaking skills
  • Experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and growing fundraising programs.
  • Proven track record in major gifts.
  • Willingness to make cold calls and solicit prospects
  • Experience working with volunteer leadership and the ability to interact at the executive level.
  • Possess skills to supervise, work with, and motivate staff, board members, and volunteers
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and fundraising database usage Knowledge of fundraising strategies
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Massachusetts
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends as necessary
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and translate information for all audiences
  • Outstanding strategic thinking skills and the ability to build support for CHA’s vision of the future
  • Self-starter and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls
  • Organized, detail oriented, and exhibit timely follow-through on tasks and goals
  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and the community, demonstrate patience, self-confidence, and common sense.
