AMSURG, a national owner/operator of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), collaborates with physicians and health systems across the country to provide and promote quality patient care. We are the nationally recognized leader in the strategic and operations management of ASCs that deliver high quality, high value, same-day surgical services with a superior patient experience. Launched in 1992 as an ASC industry pioneer, AMSURG is currently partnered with nearly 2,000 specialty physicians providing outpatient surgical services in more than 250 facilities in 34 states.

Two remote positions are available. Management prefers one position to be centrally located in the Northeast (NY, NJ, PA, CT) and the other to be in TX/Southeast (e.g. TX, FL, TN)

OVERVIEW:

  • The Director of Business Development will proactively drive ASC growth through M&A, joint ventures, de novos and strategic partnerships
  • The role will span the full business development lifecycle including sourcing, relationship development, and transaction execution
  • The position will develop and cultivate relationships with key decision makers including ASC owners, health system executives, and physicians
  • This is a high profile, high impact role that will routinely interact with senior leaders across the organization

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a thought partner to VP of Business Development and Operations counterparts to shape growth strategies in their markets;
  • Develop and execute on market specific strategies to source acquisitions of ASCs, including broker relationships, cold calling, marketing campaigns, and other creative strategies as necessary;
  • Qualify leads and develop relationships with key decision makers to execute on the AMSURG M&A strategy;
  • Articulate the AMSURG value prop and business model to M&A targets and prospective partners in markets;
  • Work with VP of BD, Legal, and M&A team to create transaction structure, develop a pro forma/valuation, and negotiate key elements of transactions with counterparties;
  • Lead the relationship with sellers/partners throughout the full transaction process from initial engagement to closing of the deal;
  • Manage lengthy timeline, complex transactions involving surgery centers and physician practices;
  • Ability to travel 50% nation-wide when appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University with a minimum of five (5) years documented successful experience as described above is required;
  • Experience with M&A and other complex transactions preferred;
  • Documented results that demonstrate the ability to meet and exceed defined goals on an ongoing and consistent basis;
  • Ability to multi-task and manage numerous responsibilities at once;
  • Strong understanding of and experience implementing a consultative selling approach preferred.
  • BD experience in multi-site healthcare organizations strongly preferred.

  • Delivering Results: Consistently achieve results in line with AMSURG’s Values. Establish high performance standards, use measurable goals to track & communicate progress and continually raise the bar on performance / expectations. Focus efforts on high impact activities by clearly communicating expectations, accountabilities and responsibilities. Conduct periodic, reality-based, results-focused operating reviews and drive quick corrective actions and provide this feedback to leadership.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Operations leadership to ensure new business initiatives are maximized effectively and efficiently.
  • Must be able to handle multiple, simultaneous tasks effectively and efficiently while maintaining a professional, courteous manner. Must be able to work well with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Must be detail oriented and organized. High integrity, including maintenance of confidential information. Must be able to exercise good judgment and positively influence and lead others, including handling confrontations with poise and efficiency. Based on business need, the ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends as approved in advance.
