Primarily responsible for obtaining blood samples (venous and arterial) to include blood cultures, performing EKGs, and point of care glucose testing. Assists in clerical duties (including patient registration, specimen processing, and quality assurance documentation as needed) and courier duties of the department as needed. As part of the job description of all employees of the Onslow County Hospital Authority, the employee may be directed to render services within the scope of his/her job description to an affiliate of the Onslow County Hospital Authority pursuant to an arrangement between the two entities. In such instances, the employee will be acting within the scope of his/her employment by the Authority, as an employee whose services have been leased to the affiliated entity.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous laboratory experience and/or completion of an approved phlebotomy course
• Experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital setting preferred
• Familiar with typing/computer keyboard
• Customer relation skills, with an attitude and demeanor consistent with the delivery of excellent customer service
• Mathematical, verbal, and written skills at the high school level
• Valid driver's license with no history of DWIconviction within the past 5 years or
  moving traffic violation for 3 years

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Medium work of lifting up to 30 pounds and/or carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds
• Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects
• Frequent contact with water (frequent hand washing and cleaning)
• Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress
• Hazardous working conditions in which employee is exposed to definite risk of bodily
  injury through contact with moving instrumentation, chemicals, and/or body fluids
