Drop In Program Assistant
Hourly, non-exempt, full time
Reports to: Director of Programs Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Travel: None
Job Summary: The Drop-In Program Assistant provides support to participants and other program staff. This program is open to participants three days a week in a social and learning environment. It is a safe, recovery-oriented opportunity for adults with mental illness. Person must be present from 7:30am – 4:00pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Other days flexible. Candidate must be able to act with a focus on boundaries, ethics and confidentiality.
Essential functions:
- Ability to actively work in a non-judgmental, calm fashion
- Able to research and share information about appropriate resources
- Become CPR certified
- Eat lunch at the program
- Help keep current and accurate files (Intake, Emergency Contacts, progress, etc.)
- Help with the member stipend work as part of our job education
- Maintain a clean program area
- Organize and assist with activities
- Participate in webinars and other training
- Plan and conduct support groups
- Provide information for reporting of program
- Ride on CTA transportation in the morning/afternoon
- Shop for program supplies
- Work with supervisor to determine needed changes and how to implement
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment
- Cultural sensitivity for working with diverse populations
- Punctual with strong attendance history
- Sound judgment with the ability to handle crisis situations
- Verbal and written communication skills
Education and Experience:
- Associates degree in a mental health related field
- Computer knowledge
- May be a Peer Support Specialist
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $12.00 per hour
