We are currently seeking an experienced CSU Engineer to support our client in the Baton Rouge area. This is a contract role lasting approximately 3-4 months. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of project engineering or plant experience and have a Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering.

About the Position:

  • Act as Owner’s Representative for CSU activities at Baton Rouge site for a large capacity expansion.
  • Lead all Health, Safety and Environmental aspects relating to commissioning activities, in partnership with project and site construction managers.
  • Provide support for the CSU activities as defined by the CSU Leader.
  • Manage commissioning of different activities such as ISBL (inside battery limit) unit, utilities, WWT (wastewater treatment) and Tank Farm areas of the project
  • Work closely with various stakeholders including the Project Manager, Engineering Managers, and the Construction Team.
  • Create a granular CSU process schedule for detailed CSU activities that will occur during the Construction Phase.
  • Interface and coordinate with vendor startup engineers to effectively startup new equipment
  • Develop a plan to charge initial raw materials, catalysts and other supplies as required for the project
  • Interface with plant maintenance to execute activities involved in loading raw materials and production supplies.
  • Lead and participate in field audits at critical milestone periods, LOTO, and turnover documentation.
  • Participate in training of operators and shift personnel on all aspects of the capital project and new equipment.
  • Review and supervise test procedures and coordinates testing activities.
  • Lead and conduct field safety audits for all CSU activities daily.
  • Supervise Commissioning database maintenance, drawing updates, and track all engineering documents for turnover packages.
  • Ensure availability of spare parts and consumables for initial systems operation.
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) system as it pertains to CSU activities.
  • Interfacing with engineering, procurement and construction groups regarding commissioning priorities and resolution of site queries.
  • Implementing and managing Change Control procedures during commissioning.
  • Communicate turnover / commissioning roles and scope for members of design and construction teams; understands the commissioning test plans/protocols, and coordinates and/or attends design, construction and operability reviews to meet project deadlines while continually monitoring critical path and prepare schedule impact reports for project management

Required Skills/ Abilities

  • Basic understanding of industrial work practices as related to Health, Safety and Environmental impacts
  • Work experience in oil, petrochemical or chemical operating facilities (preferred)
  • Previous experience in operations, process engineering, technology, maintenance, construction, construction management, or HSE (preferred)
  • Previous experience in an operating industrial facility (chemical, petrochemical or other heavy manufacturing) (preferred)

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical, Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering. Demonstrated chemical plant operations experience, in lieu of an engineering degree, will also suffice.
  • 3-5 years of project engineering or plant operations engineering work experience, preferably in chemical industry or a continuous process plant.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). This includes hardhat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, still toed shoes, or other equipment as required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
