At NorthBay Health the Controller develops and implements the strategy and vision for the assigned division and provides input and approval into the assigned department’s strategy that supports the Health System’s overall strategic plan, organizational objectives, quality commitment and values.

The Controller is responsible to direct and guide assigned department’s leadership in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of services delivered; ensuring quality programs, and a level of customer service that strives to exceed internal and external customer expectations. Ensures financial viability by monitoring and holding accountable assigned department’s revenue and expenses with attention to department management of costs, productivity in assigned cost centers, and tactical execution of Operational Excellence concepts. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, organizational leaders, medical staff, board of trustees, patients and community to foster a collaborative environment in order to achieve organizational goals.

Departments and functions in the assigned division include: Accounting, Payroll and Accounts Payable. Functional areas including corporate accounting, financial planning performance and administration, auditing, internal controls, accounts payable, payroll, treasury, investments and reimbursement. Has ultimate financial responsibility to the VP/CFO.


  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree, in Business and/or related Finance discipline, and 8 years of Finance leadership experience in a complex healthcare environment required.
  • Master’s in Business or Hospital Administration, or CPA, preferred.
  • Experience:
  • At least five years progressively responsible healthcare finance experience; three years in a financial management position in a complex healthcare environment required.
  • Extensive knowledge of hospital accounting and reimbursement principles. Experience with hospital information system implementations required.

  • Skills:
  • Versatile in complex spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Understands demand analysis, financial simulations and risk theory, IBNR calculations in a capitation environment, and discounted cash flow techniques.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple, tasks, deadlines and teams/team members.
  • Ability to delegate and keep track of projects and tasks.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and share accountability for team outcomes.
  • Demonstrates effective time management, ability to balance workload and complete projects within agreed upon deadlines.
  • Effectively communicates and cooperates in a professional manner with staff and management.
  • Ability and desire to work on complex analyses.
  • Proactive participation in planning to improve accountability, effectiveness, and working relationships.
  • Committed to continuing professional education.
  • Requires a high comfort level with taking initiative and responsibility, high energy and productivity, and the ability to manage details in an organized work style.

Compensation:

  • Budgeted salary range is MIN $210K - MAX $250K (Offered annual salary based on years of experience)
  • Management Incentive Bonus eligible, up to 15% of the annualized salary
