Overview:
  • The Construction Laborer supports the Native Village of Chenega in rural remote Alaska. Provides the experience, knowledge, and technical skills to assist in completing remote construction projects in Prince William Sound.
  • The primary activities of this role will be in the field and require knowledge and performance of common construction practices.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Construction Team Lead in performing all phases of construction projects
  • Follow direction of the Construction Team Lead and/or the Construction Project Manager
  • Identify and help mitigate job site safety issues and adhere to job site safety plans for construction projects to maintain a safe work environment for employees, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Responsible for material handling and cartage.
  • Administrative duties include but are not limited to daily job reports, planning, budgeting, and other project documentation as required.
  • This position is remote and rotational. The schedule is to be determined but will be a multi-week rotation
  • Familiar with uses and operation of common trade tools and equipment
  • Competent in use of technology
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Council members, the Tribal Administrator and Council staff, village residents, Chenega Corporation staff, vendors, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to organize time efficiently, work with minimal supervision, be self-directed, and work independently
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while delivering excellent service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to improvise and adapt to the challenges presented and work effectively in a remote environment.
  • Successful applicant must have excellent organization, and interpersonal skills
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED preferred
  • Construction industry experience preferred
  • Valid U.S. driver license.
  • Maintains a favorable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The position also requires a high level of sustained physical exertion. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • The employee will normally work in field construction site environment, with frequent exposure to varying degrees of inclement weather. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
