Description

Carolina advocates for climate, health, and equity (CACHE) is a health professional-led organization that educates health professionals, health system leadership, and the public on the health, and health equity, impacts of climate change. CACHE activates health professionals to use their trusted voices to advocate for climate solutions that promote health and equity. We have a particular focus on addressing the significant contribution of the health sector to climate change and fossil fuel use, and the associated harms to public health.

The Program Manager/Community Liaison will oversee general project management and organizational growth and provide support to the Board of Directors, Executive Director, the Advisory Board, Working Groups, and Organizational Affiliates. This position is partly funded by a new grant that will establish connections with community-based organizations and decision-makers in cities that are home to the largest NC health systems (Chapel Hill/Carrboro, Durham, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Greenville). This position will help CACHE build sustained relationships with community groups focused on health equity and/or racial justice, which will allow for ongoing collaborations and amplified advocacy beyond the grant period.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities: Support of Working Groups

CACHE is seeking an independent and detail-oriented contributor to serve as a part-time Program Manager to the project. This position will require capacity to coordinate multiple concurrent tasks, including managing budgets and other aspects of the organization, annual symposium, membership development, and outreach. This is a remote position that must be located in North Carolina.

  • Schedule, manage registration for, and coordinate annual symposium on climate and health , grow the audience, and oversee continuing education credits with the Southern Regional Area Health Education Center.
    • Identify potential speakers on various topics and identify moderators/co-sponsors to support events.
    • Advertise the event and distribute promotional materials widely.
  • Schedule and organize regional events with local elected officials, community organizations, and health system leadership, enhancing the CACHE efforts around climate smart health care.
  • Schedule, attend and take minutes for monthly meetings of Board, Steering Committee, and Working Groups.
  • Assist chairs and members of each Working Group with identifying resources and contacts for program development.
    • Contribute ideas for collaboration between working groups.
    • Offer contributions during discussions at meetings as opportunities arise.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director on all aspects of organizational development and communication.
  • Develop and manage relationships with affiliated healthcare associations, interest groups and nonprofits in NC, including our national partner, the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health and other Organizational Affiliates.
  • Participate (with Exec Director) in bi-monthly state affiliate meetings of the MSCCH and present CACHE updates to state leaders at these meetings.
  • Assist in development and accomplishment of strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities: Community Outreach & Communications

  • Oversee communication with external partners and members (e.g., management and maintenance of Mailchimp email campaigns, website, social media posts, CACHE email, flyers for webinars).
  • Assist with identifying and scheduling venues for CACHE speakers.
    • Develop a CACHE speaker’s bureau.
  • Facilitate development and distribution of CACHE video as a messaging and recruitment tool.
  • Grow and manage a large volunteer base, including students.
  • Present sustainability and climate/health topics to students.
  • Meet with and integrate all interested people that sign up with CACHE via the website.
  • Identify potential new members and oversee CACHE outreach efforts.

Key Responsibilities: Program Development

  • Develop tools to assess responses to programming.
  • Keep records of organization growth, active volunteers, event participation, meetings and more.
  • Create monthly records of organization updates.
  • Track media appearances of CACHE, (radio, letters to the editor, and otherwise).

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Health Policy Administration, Organizational Management, or similar discipline.
    • One to three years of experience in a similar role is a plus.
  • Intermediate or higher-level skills in MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working with website management and email service providers is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and multidisciplinary project skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Adaptable with a willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

  • Experience with stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to travel to selected communities in North Carolina

Salary/Benefits

This position reports to the Executive Director.
Compensation: $25-33- per hour (remote contract position)
Anticipated time requirement: 25-30 hours/week for a minimum of five months, with anticipated growth to 40 hours/week over next 2 years.
